We are a collective of GBC parents & allies whose aim is to provide on campus supports to student parents, parents-to-be & student families. We hope to assist student parents and their families by offering workshops, presentations, activities, resources and peer support groups that empower parents and offer them opportunities to develop skills useful in maintaining a healthy school/work/life balan
ce. We recognize the many challenges faced by all parents and aim to offer a range of programming that acknowledges the unique challenges of single parents, low income parents, 1st time parents, families in transition, LGTBQ parents, aboriginal parents, newcomer parents, disabled parents and parents with special needs children. We are committed to anti-oppressive practice; we work from a feminist perspective that acknowledges the intersectionality of oppression and are focused on organizing accordingly. We are interested in working collaboratively with GBC students, staff, faculty and local community members / organizations by developing partnerships, coalitions, committees or working groups with allies. Every members contribution, however little or large is greatly encouraged . The group should serve as a supportive platform for the personal and professional development of its membership. As student parents we utilize many skill sets, have excellent work ethic and a deep determination to succeed; we deserve to be supported on our path to success. We can serve as great supports and advocates for one another and help encourage personal and professional growth. We can build our personal and collective capacity by supporting each other even when the college institution and many of society's systems do not. We can be the change we want to see! If you are interested in becoming a member, in a potential partnership or in lending your ideas / skills / connections to help build please contact us here or email us at [email protected].
