Ontario Campaign 2000

Ontario Campaign 2000 Campaign 2000 came about as a result of a 1989 a resolution passed by all MPs to end child poverty We’ve been pushing for policies that would help people.

Canada might be a wealthy nation, but too many of our children and youth live in third world conditions – without a proper home or house, going to food banks for their one meal of the day, braving the cold without adequately insulated coats, jackets and shoes, having to say no to school field trips and events, and much more else that those of us who aren’t on low-income take for granted. Ontario C

ampaign 2000 wants to see child, youth and family poverty eradicated in our province and our country. We produce reports and we talk to governments whenever we get the opportunity to do so. We give presentations, go to rallies, tweet, involve people living in poverty and much more. But we all need to do more. And in order to do more we need to educate ourselves, our friends, family and neighbours about the problems faced by kids and youth living in poverty here – in our community, citiy, province and Country. We need to talk about these problems, raise awareness and come up with solutions. Together. Together we can make our province better for everyone. Educate to Eradicate! We will keep updating this page and hope you can help spread the word. Feel free to contact us if you want to know more about poverty in Ontario and Canada and we’ll do our best to answer your questions. And if you want to get more involved – we’ve always got things to do. This is our province – let’s talk about how we can make it a better place for everyone.

❗NEW REPORT❗

The 2025 National Report Card, “Investing in Tomorrow: A Future Without Poverty,” is out now.

Twenty-five years after Canada pledged to end child poverty, progress is reversing. Child poverty has risen for the third consecutive year, families are living in deeper poverty, and income inequality is widening, with children from marginalized communities hit hardest as the Canada Child Benefit loses effectiveness.

The Disability Poverty Report Card 2025 has been released, showing that poverty for people with disabilities in Canada remains deep and persistent.

Canada’s grade has risen only slightly from an F to a D, highlighting how limited the progress has been. Even with the rollout of the Canada Disability Benefit, the current $200 monthly amount is far too low and reaches too few people, leaving more than 1.5 million individuals still below the poverty line.

The report shows that people with disabilities continue to face poverty at nearly twice the rate of non-disabled Canadians, and the depth of poverty is worsening. On average, individuals are living 30 percent below the poverty line, revealing a widening gap and systems that are failing to provide fairness, security, and adequate support.

Behind these numbers are real people navigating daily barriers and high costs that should not exist in an inclusive society.

The findings underscore one message: meaningful action is long overdue.

A Future Without Poverty: National Dialogue 2025

Recorded on the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The National Dialogue brought together organizations, advocates, and community leaders from across Canada for a powerful conversation on poverty, inequality, and collective action.
Hosted by Leila Sarangi (Family Service Toronto & Campaign 2000), the event featured Jasmine Ramze Rezaee, Dr. Mélanie Doucet, Rabia Khedr, Amanda Therrien, Scott McAfee, Natalie Appleyard, Stacia Stewart, and Jack Bogaard, each offering vital insights on how we can confront systemic inequities and build a future rooted in justice, equity, and inclusion.

Together, speakers highlighted that poverty is not inevitable, it’s a policy choice. Real change is possible when we act collectively.
