Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) welcomes the growing momentum in Canada–MENA economic and investment relations following the inaugural Canada Investment Summit, held in Toronto on September 14–15, 2026.

Convened by Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Summit brought together investors and business leaders from nearly 30 countries, representing more than $100 trillion in assets under management, with nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments and negotiations.

🇦🇪 UAE: H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, led a high-level delegation and engaged with Prime Minister Carney, senior Canadian ministers, provincial premiers and former Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

🇶🇦 Qatar: H.E. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance, met with Ministers Anita Anand and François-Philippe Champagne to discuss investment, finance and economic cooperation.

The Summit also featured Canadian leaders, including Minister Mélanie Joly. Recent Canadian engagement with the Gulf, including Minister David McGuinty’s visits to the UAE and Qatar, has focused on defence, industrial and economic partnerships.

For CACMR, these engagements reflect opportunities to advance Canada–MENA investment, trade, technology and economic cooperation.

As CACMR Chair and President Abdullatif Al-Shaikh noted:

“We are increasingly seeing diplomatic engagement translate into substantive discussions around investment, trade, technology and strategic economic cooperation. CACMR sees an important opportunity to strengthen the bridge between Canada and the MENA region and turn this momentum into meaningful, sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.”

يرحب الكونجرس الكندي العربي بالزخم المتنامي في العلاقات الاقتصادية والاستثمارية بين كندا والمنطقة، عقب انعقاد قمة الاستثمار الكندية في تورونتو يومي 14 و15 سبتمبر 2026.

وجمعت القمة، التي دعا إليها رئيس الوزراء مارك كارني، مستثمرين وقادة أعمال من نحو 30 دولة، يمثلون أصولاً تتجاوز 100 تريليون دولار، مع ما يقارب 500 مليار دولار من الالتزامات والمفاوضات الاستثمارية الجديدة.

🇦🇪 الإمارات: ترأس معالي الدكتور ثاني بن أحمد الزيودي وفداً رفيع المستوى، وأجرى لقاءات مع رئيس الوزراء مارك كارني وكبار المسؤولين الكنديين ورؤساء حكومات المقاطعات ورئيس الوزراء الأسبق ستيفن هاربر.

🇶🇦 قطر: التقى معالي علي بن أحمد الكواري، وزير المالية، بالوزيرين أنيتا أناند وفرانسوا-فيليب شامبين لبحث الاستثمار والتمويل والتعاون الاقتصادي.

وشهدت القمة أيضاً مشاركة قيادات كندية، من بينهم الوزيرة ميلاني جولي، فيما ركزت التحركات الكندية الأخيرة تجاه الخليج على تعزيز العلاقات الدفاعية والشراكات الصناعية والاقتصادية.

ويرى CACMR أن هذه التطورات تفتح المجال لتعميق التعاون بين كندا والمنطقة في الاستثمار والتجارة والتكنولوجيا والتعاون الاقتصادي.

وقال رئيس مجلس الإدارة ورئيس CACMR عبداللطيف آل الشيخ:

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was pleased to participate in the International Day of Women in Diplomacy 2026 Forum, held in Ottawa on June 10.

CACMR was represented by members of its Board of Directors, led by Chair and President Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, joining ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and distinguished leaders in recognizing the vital role of women in diplomacy, leadership and peace.

Organized by the Women Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa (WHDMO) in collaboration with Gowling WLG , the forum was honoured to welcome the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, C.M., O.M., Speaker of the Senate of Canada |Sénat du Canada, as the keynote speaker.

CACMR is proud to support initiatives that advance women’s leadership, international dialogue and stronger cooperation between Canada and the Middle East and North Africa.

شارك الكونغرس الكندي للعلاقات مع الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا (CACMR)، ممثلاً بأعضاء مجلس إدارته وبرئاسة رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس السيد عبداللطيف الشيخ، في منتدى اليوم الدولي للمرأة في العمل الدبلوماسي 2026، الذي عُقد في العاصمة أوتاوا بتاريخ 10 يونيو.

The luncheon brought together members of Ottawa’s diplomatic, government, business, and international affairs communities for a valuable discussion on international trade, Canada–U.S. relations, public service, and international engagement.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was pleased to participate in the Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI) conference, “Implementing Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy,” in Ottawa, represented by Chair and President Abdullatif Al-Shaikh and Vice Chair Operations Dr. Mohammed Al-Anbaki.

The conference brought together parliamentarians, senior government officials, defence and security leaders, industry representatives and policy experts to discuss Canada’s defence industrial strategy, procurement priorities and evolving security landscape.

A highlight was reconnecting with the Honourable David McGuinty, Canada’s Minister of National Defence, a close friend and valued ally of the Congress. Discussions included the ongoing situation and war in the Middle East, heightened regional tensions, and their implications for regional and international security, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, de-escalation and long-term stability.

The Congress leadership was also pleased to meet the Honourable Stephen Fuhr CD, Secretary of State (Defence Procurement), and exchange perspectives on Canada’s defence procurement priorities and opportunities for greater cooperation.

The Congress remains committed to strengthening Canada–Middle East relations and advancing dialogue and partnerships across defence, security, innovation, trade and investment.

كما التقت قيادة الكونغرس معالي ستيفن فور، وزير الدولة للمشتريات الدفاعية، وجرى تبادل وجهات النظر حول أولويات كندا في مجال المشتريات الدفاعية وفرص تعزيز التعاون.

ويواصل الكونغرس التزامه بتعزيز العلاقات بين كندا والشرق الأوسط وتوسيع الحوار والشراكات في مجالات الدفاع والأمن والابتكار والتجارة والاستثمار.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was pleased to participate in the celebration of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt 🇪🇬 in Ottawa, hosted by H.E. Ahmed Hafez, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada 🇨🇦 , on July 23, 2026.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was represented by its Chair and President, Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, alongside Board Members Ms. Zainab Alsalihiy and Ms. Sarah Masri.

The reception brought together members of the diplomatic community, government representatives, business and community leaders, and distinguished guests to celebrate Egypt’s National Day and the longstanding friendship between Canada and Egypt.

Members of the Board of the Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR), led by Dr. Mohammed Al-Anbaki , Vice Chair of Operations, were honoured to attend the celebration of the Glorious Throne Day of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ottawa on July 30, 2026. 🇨🇦🇲🇦

The reception was graciously hosted by Her Excellency Mrs. Souriya Consul Otmani , Ambassador of His Majesty the King of to , and Mr. Merouane Sadqi, and brought together members of the diplomatic community, government representatives, community leaders and distinguished guests.

The occasion provided an important opportunity to celebrate the longstanding friendship between Canada and Morocco and to reaffirm the value of continued dialogue, cooperation, and stronger people-to-people ties.

🇨🇦🇰🇼 Strengthening Canada–Kuwait Relations | تعزيز العلاقات الكندية–الكويتية

On July 23, 2026, the Board of the Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR), led by Chair & President Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Talal Mansour Al-Hajeri, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Canada, at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait 🇰🇼 in Ottawa.

Joining Mr. Al-Shaikh were Dr. Mohammed Al-Anbaki, Vice Chair of Operations and Sarah El-Masri, Director of Finance.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss matters of mutual cooperation, strengthen dialogue, and explore opportunities to further advance relations and engagement between Canada and Kuwait.

CACMR values its continued engagement with Arab diplomatic missions across Canada and remains committed to building stronger connections between Canada and the Middle East and North Africa through constructive dialogue, institutional cooperation and meaningful partnerships.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was pleased to participate in a diplomatic reception hosted by His Excellency Can Dizdar, Ambassador of the Republic of 🇹🇷 to Canada, in honour of Her Excellency Feda Abdelhady , the new Head of Mission of the State of 🇵🇸 to 🇨🇦.

Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh and Ms. Zainab, representing the Board of CACMR, attended the reception held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of in Ottawa.

The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests to welcome Ambassador Abdelhady as she begins her mandate in Canada.

CACMR extends its sincere congratulations to Ambassador Feda Abdelhady and wishes her every success in her diplomatic role and in strengthening relations and engagement in Canada.
