On June 3rd, 2026, a delegation from the Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR), led by Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, President of CACMR, alongside Dr. Mohammed Al-Anbaki, Vice President Operations at CACMR, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen 🇾🇪 in Ottawa to sign the official book of condolences following the passing of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.

The CACMR delegation was warmly received by H.E. Jamal Al-Sallal, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Canada and Dean of the Council of Arab League Ambassadors to Canada 🇨🇦 . During the visit, the delegation conveyed its heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to His Excellency, the Government of Yemen, and the Yemeni people during this time of mourning.

The visit reflects CACMR’s continued commitment to diplomacy, solidarity, and strengthening relations between Canada and the Arab world. CACMR remains dedicated to fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding across the Middle East and North Africa region.

CACMR extends its deepest condolences to the people and leadership of Yemen, and to the family of former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi. May he rest in peace, and may Yemen continue toward peace, unity, and prosperity.

وقد حظي وفد الكونجرس باستقبال حار من قبل سعادة السفير جمال السلال، سفير الجمهورية اليمنية لدى كندا 🇨🇦 وعميد مجلس سفراء جامعة الدول العربية في كندا. وخلال الزيارة، نقل الوفد تعازيه الحارة ومواساته الصادقة إلى سعادة السفير والحكومة اليمنية والشعب اليمني في هذا المصاب الجلل.

وتعكس هذه الزيارة التزام الكونجرس الكندي العربي المستمر بالدبلوماسية والتضامن وتعزيز العلاقات بين كندا والعالم العربي، كما تؤكد حرصه الدائم على تعزيز الحوار والتعاون والتفاهم المتبادل في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) is proud to recognize Ana Krstanovic, CACMR’s Director of Government Relations, Advocacy, Trade & Investment and Interim Executive Director of TRF, for participating as a panelist at the international forum “Innovative Finance around South-South Cooperation” in Santa Marta, Colombia, from May 6–8, 2026.

Organized by APC Colombia, the forum brought together global leaders, diplomats, and development experts to explore how innovative financing can strengthen collaboration across the Global South.

Participants included Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs of Colombia; H.E. Mr. Lukman Abdulraheem Al Faily, Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations; Raouf Al-Maliki, Palestinian Ambassador to Colombia; Adrian Bernie Candolada, Ambassador of the Philippines to Colombia; Mateo Estrémé of Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Yuliana Angelova of the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations; H.E. Omar Hilale, President of the HLC; and Alexandra Palencia Garnica, Vice-President of the HLC.

During the discussion, Ana emphasized that innovative finance is not only about mobilizing capital, but also about advancing trust, cooperation, and sustainable partnerships that create lasting impact.

CACMR remains committed to supporting international dialogue, economic cooperation, and strategic engagement between Canada, the MENA region, and global partners.

جمع المنتدى، الذي نظمته منظمة APC Colombia، قادة عالميين ودبلوماسيين وخبراء في مجال التنمية لبحث سبل تعزيز التعاون في بلدان الجنوب من خلال التمويل المبتكر.

وشمل المشاركون: ماوريسيو خاراميلو جاسر، نائب وزير الشؤون المتعددة الأطراف في كولومبيا؛ وسعادة السيد لقمان عبد الرحيم الفيلي، المندوب الدائم للعراق لدى الأمم المتحدة؛ ورؤوف المالكي، سفير فلسطين لدى كولومبيا. أدريان بيرني كاندولادا، سفير الفلبين لدى كولومبيا؛ ماتيو إستريمي من وزارة الخارجية الأرجنتينية؛ يوليانا أنجيلوفا من البعثة الدائمة لبلغاريا لدى الأمم المتحدة؛ سعادة عمر هلالي، رئيس مجلس القيادة العليا؛ وألكسندرا بالينسيا غارنيكا، نائبة رئيس مجلس القيادة العليا.

خلال النقاش، أكدت آنا أن التمويل المبتكر لا يقتصر على حشد رؤوس الأموال فحسب، بل يشمل أيضاً تعزيز الثقة والتعاون والشراكات المستدامة التي تُحدث أثراً دائماً.

The Canada Arab Congress on MENA relations extends its sincere condolences on the passing of former President and veteran statesman Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Throughout a lifetime of public service, he remained dedicated to Yemen’s unity, constitutional legitimacy, and national interests during some of the country’s most challenging times. We extend our sympathies to his family and the people of Yemen. May he rest in peace.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) welcomes and supports the official visit of Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Anita Anand, to the State of Qatar, reaffirming the growing strategic partnership between Canada 🇨🇦 and Qatar 🇶🇦 during an important time for regional diplomacy and international cooperation.

During her visit to Doha, Minister Anand met with His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, as well as His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for International Affairs.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of the Canada–Qatar Strategic Dialogue Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a new ministerial-level framework to deepen bilateral cooperation across shared priorities including trade, education, development, humanitarian engagement, and regional stability.

CACMR welcomes this important milestone and commends both governments for their commitment to advancing dialogue, economic cooperation, peacebuilding, and stronger people-to-people ties.

The visit also highlighted Canada’s solidarity with Qatar amid evolving regional developments and recognized Qatar’s important diplomatic and mediation efforts in support of regional and global stability.

As an organization dedicated to strengthening relations between Canada and the MENA region, CACMR strongly supports initiatives that promote constructive engagement, partnership, and long-term cooperation between Canada and the Arab world.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) welcomes the visit of Minister David McGuinty to the State of Qatar 🇶🇦 on May 14/15, 2026, as an important step in strengthening Canada–Qatar relations and advancing dialogue on regional cooperation, security, and economic partnership.

During the visit, Minister McGuinty held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs of Qatar. Discussions focused on avenues to further strengthen defence ties and enhance bilateral dialogue between both nations, including through the establishment of an office for Canada’s 🇨🇦new Defence Attaché in Doha in June.

Minister McGuinty also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting regional peace and security across the Middle East.

The Minister’s visit demonstrated Canada’s commitment to its longstanding relationship with the State of Qatar at a critical moment for global security and stability. The visit further builds on Mark Carney’s visit to Qatar in January 2026, which marked an important step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

As Canada continues to deepen its engagement across the Middle East and North Africa region, CACMR recognizes the importance of continued diplomatic dialogue, defence cooperation, and strategic partnerships that contribute to regional and international stability.

The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was honoured to attend the The Empire Club of Canada event held in downtown Toronto on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, featuring François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, under the theme:

“Canada Strong for All: United in Time of Uncertainty.”

Representing CACMR, Mr. Abdullatif Al-Shaikh, Chair and President of the Congress, participated in the important discussion surrounding Canada’s economic priorities, fiscal leadership, global trade dynamics, and long-term resilience following the Government of Canada’s Spring Economic Statement.

During the event, Mr. Al-Shaikh had the opportunity to meet with Minister Champagne and exchange views on economic cooperation, international partnerships, and strengthening engagement between Canada and the Middle East and North Africa region.

Mr. Al-Shaikh also met with Seamus O'Regan, former Minister of Labour and former Minister of Natural Resources of Canada, where discussions highlighted leadership, economic development, and Canada’s evolving role in global affairs.

CACMR remains committed to advancing constructive dialogue, fostering international cooperation, and strengthening Canada–MENA relations through diplomacy, policy engagement, and strategic partnerships.

On May 13, 2026, in Muscat, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand met with His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman , marking an important step forward in bilateral relations between Canada 🇨🇦 and Oman 🇴🇲 .

A key milestone of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, establishing a formal framework for regular bilateral dialogue and deeper cooperation across:�• Trade and investment�• Clean technology�• Critical minerals�• Education and health collaboration�• Tourism and people-to-people connections

The ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, reaffirming the importance of diplomacy, de-escalation, protection of civilian lives, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

As Canada 🇨🇦 and Oman 🇴🇲 celebrate over 50 years of diplomatic relations, this meeting reflects a shared commitment to international law, regional stability, and a forward-looking partnership built on mutual respect and cooperation.
