Continuing our UCRDC communications outreach by welcoming film producer Anna Palenchuk (whom UCRDC President Roman Waschuk first met at the Odesa Film Festival nearly a decade ago) to one of our volunteer Wednesdays. Sisterhood and resilience are themes that Anna, now Toronto-based, is now focusing on in her work. We’ve got lots of examples in our holdings - and in the people who power our work every week!

If you've visited the UCRDC, you've certainly seen our striking wall of panoramic photographs, each capturing a moment in the history of Ukrainians in Canada. Among them is a truly remarkable image taken at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery in Toronto on June 19, 1932.

The photograph shows members of the Ukrainian community gathered on Zeleni Sviata (Pentecost), a tradition when families come together to honour and remember those who have passed away.

More than 90 years later, this image continues to inspire. It is a powerful reminder that while generations change, our traditions, faith, and connection to those who came before us endure. Looking closely at the faces in this photograph, one cannot help but wonder about their stories, their hopes, and the legacy they left behind for future generations. History is not only found in books, it lives in the memories, traditions, and communities that continue to carry it forward. (Photo by Brightling Studios, Toronto)

The newly elected expanded Board of Directors of the UCRDC convened for a full-day strategic planning session to map the next chapter of growth and community impact.
As UCRDC enters its 44th year of operations, the Board focused on setting priorities not just for the coming year, but for the next three years. This includes developing new initiatives and strengthening collaborations with academic and cultural institutions across Canada and around the world.
Exciting projects, meaningful partnerships, and a strong vision for the future are ahead. Stay tuned!

Dr. Ihor Shchupak, director of "Tkuma" Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and member of the Board of Directors of UJE - Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, visited UCRDC today. Apart from gifting us several interesting publications, among them a pocket "КОБЗАР - для Українських Воїнів", Dr. Shchupak had a very meaningful discussion with UCRDC President Roman Waschuk about UCRDC archival holdings and exciting possibilities in their utilization for educational purposes in Ukraine.
Continuing to preserve the past, establishing new prospects for future cooperation and collaboration!
Thank you Dr. Shchupak!

A WARM and SINCERE THANK YOU to the UCRDC ARCHIVE VOLUNTEERS! 🩷
Slightly belatedly, we celebrated National Volunteer Week today with a lot of hard work, a little fun, and a surprise visit from Natalia Pawlenko, UNWLA President.
UCRDC acknowledges and greatly appreciates the dedication of the volunteer archivists, their tireless, meticulous and painstaking work every Wednesday, (and often more often✨✨✨), in our common effort of "Preserving the Past for Future Generations!"

Visitors from Cleveland, Ohio !

On Saturday, UCRDC Archives welcomed Zachary Nelson, President of the Board of Directors of the UKRAINIAN MUSEUM-ARCHIVES in Cleveland. The Museum was founded in 1952 by displaced scholars who took on the mission of collecting and preserving items from Ukrainian history and culture during an era when this kind of material was being deliberately destroyed in Soviet Ukraine.
Today, again, after 4 years of horrific upheaval in Ukraine, of Russia's deliberate attempt to obliterate Ukrainian culture and history, we share the same mission of continuing to preserve and protect the valuable archival materials which have been collected by the Ukrainian Diaspora in the U.S. and Canada.
Thank you Zachary for your interest and willingness to work together in our common quest.
