Fitzrovia, Harrington Housing and other landlords are ripping off rooming house tenants in Toronto.

These rooms have "walls" made of bookshelves that do not reach the ceiling, abundant fire hazards and frequent noncompliance with licensing provisions under the MTH bylaw.

The FMTA is seeking applications for relief hotline telephone counselors on a casual basis. This position will fill in for regularly scheduled staff when on leave or absent. Hours are thus assigned on a casual basis as needed.

Extreme heat kills and now combined with the wildfire smoke, tenants are more vulnerable than ever to climate change.

We're calling for enforceable legislation on maximum indoor heat, and further protections on fine particulate matter and ultrafine particles (UFPs).

"The new AC rules are a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t go far enough...

Most of the onus is still on tenants, who may not be able to afford AC units for more than one room at a time.

A proposed motion at the Planning and Housing Committee would expand bylaw officers to support criminal investigations into eviction cases, but the FMTA has reservations about police involvement in landlord-tenant disputes.
