Fernie Youth Services

Fernie Youth Services Fernie Youth is a Toronto area charity that offers services to youth and their families.

Guided by hope and compassion, we serve youth in and at risk of being in conflict with the law on a journey towards reintegration and purposeful living. At Fernie, we give first, second, third, or thirtieth chances to help youth move forward in a meaningful way. šŸ‘«

Since 1964, Fernie Youth Services has been dedicated to empowering young people who have been given up on, often based on their positi

on in society. We provide residential, employment readiness, and community reintegration programming to at-risk youth across the Greater Toronto Area, transforming their lives and fostering safer communities for generations to come. 🧔

To date, Fernie has guided over 6,000 young men and women on new paths toward becoming responsible, law-abiding citizens. Through our commitment to Caring Beyond ReasonĀ® and our unwavering dedication to going above and beyond, we instill hope in the next generation, inspiring them to reach their fullest potential. A huge congratulations to Fernie Youth alumnus Hazema, who just had his poem ā€˜From Seed to Soul’ published in Dutch Pot in Diaspora: An Anthology of Food Sovereignty! 🧔

This piece is an evocative story about food and the spiritual meaning behind it. It ties together themes present throughout Hazema’s life, including gentrification and the commercialization of tradition and community, and is a reminder to reconnect with who we are through what we eat.

We’re beyond proud of Hazema’s work and this achievement, and we can’t wait to see where his passion takes him next.

Join us in congratulating Hazema below, and learn more about Fernie’s alumni at https://fernieyouth.ca/success-stories/ šŸ‘«

Sometimes, being heard can change everything.

Beat Builders gives young men ages 14 to 24 in the Greater Toronto Area a space to make music, build confidence, connect with others and learn real skills in recording and production.

The 14-week program is designed for Youth who are marginalized, at-risk, or justice-involved, creating space for self-expression, mental wellness and connection through music.

And as this alumnus shares, that connection can stay with you long after the program ends.

It’s International Youth Day! šŸ‘«

Young people deserve to be heard, supported, and included in the decisions that shape their lives.

At Fernie Youth Services, we see young people as leaders, creators, and community members with valuable ideas and strengths. We are proud to work alongside them as they learn, build, contribute, and move towards their goals.

Young people are not only shaping the future. They are shaping their communities now.

Recently, our Beat Builders participants got the chance to learn from and create some music alongside Benjamin de Graaf of the Love Music Initiative Canada šŸŽ§

We were thrilled to host his DJ Workshop in our program studio space. Throughout this session, our participants explored new sounds, learned the ropes on DJ controllers, and got some inspiration to hone their artistry and creativity.

From all of our program team and participants, thank you to Benjamin for sharing his amazing work in our space!

What an incredible day at the first-ever Aspire Arts Fest!

From beat making to DJ stations to painting, arts and crafts, and a photo booth, the festival was a beautiful celebration of creativity, music, and community.

We were thrilled to represent Beat Builders and connect with so many amazing people interested in our program. We're especially excited about the new partnerships on the horizon - including an opportunity to be part of the City of Toronto's annual Resource Summit.

A huge thank you to Katarina Wallace for hosting such an inspiring event at Studio TCC, and to Benjamin de Graaf (Love Music Initiative Canada) for inviting us to be part of this unforgettable day. Here's to the first of many Aspire Arts Fests šŸŽ§

No matter who you are or where you’ve been, your feelings need an outlet.

When we channel our emotions through a productive, creative outlet, we put all that energy into something positive. Rather than letting big feelings and negative thoughts swirl around, they can be poured into something bigger than ourselves and, ultimately, be released.

This idea is what powers our Scarborough Beat Builder music therapy program. It’s a safe space that turns life’s challenges into confidence, with youth practicing self-expression, discipline, and building technical skills and creativity at the same time. šŸŽ§

This program has the power to transform a young person’s life, and we feel incredibly lucky to be a part of their journeys. To learn more about Beat Builders and how it helps, visit fernieyouth.ca 🧔
