🎉 INWED Toronto 2026 was one for the books! - Another amazing post

On June 27, SWE Toronto hosted our first-ever full-day International Women in Engineering Day conference — Build Your Path: Redefining Engineering Careers — and the energy was electric. 💜

An inspiring keynote, a candid panel, a hands-on workshop, and roundtables full of real talk reminded us there's no single "right" path — there's your path. 🚀

đź’› A huge thank you to our speakers, and above all to our Board of Directors and SWE volunteers. This day was a year in the making and simply wouldn't have happened without you.

🎉 What a day! INWED Toronto 2026 was one for the books.

On Saturday, June 27, the Society of Women Engineers Toronto hosted our first-ever full-day INWED conference — Build Your Path: Redefining Engineering Careers — at the Centre for Social Innovation, and the energy in the room was incredible from start to finish. 💡

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out. The turnout blew us away, and it was so inspiring to see a room full of engineers, students, and allies ready to connect, learn, and grow together.

đź“Ł SWE Toronto Annual General Meeting 2026

The SWE Toronto Annual General Meeting is a meeting of the general membership of our affiliate in order to introduce the newly elected board of directors to the membership. It is a time to make important decisions regarding the organization, and inform the membership of previous and future activities.

At the AGM, SWE Toronto's President will give an update on our affiliate with a summary of each committee’s activities. All SWE Toronto Members are welcome, which includes volunteers and anyone who comes to SWE Toronto events. Please note that the general public i.e. SWE members, committee volunteers, will only need to attend the first portion of the AGM.

We're delighted to announce that Alex Matyas will be our MC for INWED Toronto 2026!

Alex is SWE Toronto's Director of Communications and Marketing for the last 4 years and is the Operations Lead for Upside Robotics.

Curious by nature and driven by building what's next, Alex is a Mechatronics Engineering Graduate and EIT leading Operations at Upside Robotics. Her career has crossed engineering, product design, business development, marketing, and operations. Over the past 6+ years, she has brought ideas to life across service robotics, wearable technology, SaaS, and Global travel —working with startups, global organizations, and Fortune 500 companies alike.

What ties it all together is a love of connecting people, technology, and strategy. Whether coordinating international teams, designing new processes, launching products into 100+ countries, or managing partnerships with clients and vendors across North America, she enjoy translating complex technical challenges into practical, people-focused solutions.

With a global mindset and a multidisciplinary approach, she thrives in fast-paced environments where innovation, collaboration, and adaptability are essential. She brings the perspective of an engineer, the organization of a project manager, the creativity of a marketer, and the curiosity to keep learning something new with every project.

Meet the co-leads for our Career Pivot + Industry Change roundtable stream at INWED Toronto 2026.

Maria Christina Orillano is an internationally trained engineer turned business development manager with over 11 years of experience across energy, infrastructure, and commercial strategy. She earned her Bachelor's and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering, built her technical foundation in Petroleum Engineering across Qatar and Angola, and pivoted into Strategic Projects Business Development in Canada. Driven, resilient, and team-focused — she is living proof that a pivot doesn't mean starting from zero. It means redirecting everything you've already built.

Ari Gooden is a manufacturing and operations leader with experience across automotive engineering, manufacturing strategy, operational excellence, and plant leadership at General Motors, Stellantis, and Honda. Alongside her technical career, she has pursued a deep interest in organisational leadership and human systems as an Industrial/Organisational Psychology Scholar-Practitioner. Ari is passionate about helping professionals navigate career pivots, leadership transitions, and non-traditional paths while staying authentic to their strengths and values.
