This Saturday!✨

The Riverdale Hub Gallery is pleased to present a “Sunlit Canopy” , a solo exhibition by Helen Utsal.

Discover the work of Helen Utsal, an award-winning contemporary landscape painter from Vancouver Island 🌲

“Sunlit Canopy”: An Exhibition by Helen Utsal

April 1st – 24th, 2026
Opening Reception:
April 11th, 2–4 PM
Artist talk at 3 PM
Please RSVP to [email protected]

Rooted in time spent immersed in nature, Utsal’s practice is both meditative and expressive—capturing the quiet beauty, movement, and emotion of the natural world. Rather than recreating what she sees, she paints from memory and feeling, offering vibrant, imaginative impressions of forests, water, and light.

“I am endlessly inspired by trees—their diverse shapes, moods, and personalities. My goal isn’t to replicate reality, but to share my impressions of the forest… a place filled with wonder and possibility.”
Through unexpected colour and expressive mark-making, her work reflects moments gathered while hiking and paddling—glimmers of light through leaves, reflections on water, and the intricate textures of the land beneath our feet.

Step into a world where nature is reimagined through curiosity, joy, and a sense of wonder.

Happy International Women’s Day 💐

Today we honour the strength, creativity, and leadership of women in our artistic community and beyond. We recognize the powerful role women play in shaping culture, challenging perspectives, and building spaces where stories can be shared and celebrated.

This year’s graphic was created using artwork by Aggie Armstrong, Kristy Blackwell, Kat Honey, Kamaldeep Kaur, Anna Kavehmehr, Madhu Kumar, Emmette Lewis, Diane Montreuil, and Paulina Padilla — artists whose unique voices, and practices enrich our community in meaningful ways.

02/16/2026

In celebration of Black History Month, we are proud to honor the extraordinary artistry of Curtia Wright — a visionary creative whose work continues to inspire, challenge, and captivate audiences.

Today, we not only celebrate Curtia Wright’s powerful contributions to art and culture, but we are also thrilled to officially announce her highly anticipated summer exhibition, opening this August. Titled Amensalism, the exhibition presents a dynamic new body of work that explores the complex intersections of gender, spirituality, mental health, and colonialism through a compelling host-parasite lens. Using handmade paper, drawing, and painting, Curtia examines how these forces shape, consume, and coexist within individuals, revealing the tension, struggle, and duality inherent in systemic relationships.

Join us as we celebrate her talent, her impact, and the vibrant legacy she continues to build. Stay tuned for more details — this is an exhibition you won’t want to miss.
