The Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario is proud to endorse the October 10 March for Palestine, and will be taking to the streets alongside the Palestinian Youth Movement joining students, workers and communities across the province organizing for Palestinian liberation.

The genocide and mass extermination of the Palestinian people persist, sustained by the complicity of governments and our institutions. As so-called Canada continues to strengthen its relationship with the zionist entity, it simultaneously deepens its complicity in U.S.-led imperialism and the settler-colonial expansion against the Palestinian people.

Students, alongside people of conscience worldwide, have reached the same conclusion: there can be no business as usual in the face of an ongoing genocide. The government and our institutions cannot continue prioritizing profit over people. We demand an end to the genocide, full disclosure and divestment from all weapons and arms manufacturers, the dismantling of the zionist state, and the liberation of the Palestinian people - from the river to the sea.

Look out for the CFS-O student contingent and march alongside students across the province – for the living, the martyrs, the land, and in visible and unequivocal solidarity for a free Palestine.

From restorative justice to the most marginalized in our communities, our discussions, analysis, and work on sexual violence must remain grounded in politics and principles that are survivor-centric, and can never leave the most marginalized in our communities behind. Sexual violence has no room on our campuses or in our communities.

Today, on September 30th we join people across Turtle Island to commemorate Orange Shirt Day which recognizes the violent and ongoing legacy of residential schools, forced assimilation and settler-colonial violence faced by Indigenous communities.

Indigenous people across so-called Canada continue to resist and defend their communities, their lands and waters, and their sovereignty – from Grassy Narrows to Wet’suwet’en and across Turtle Island. From the criminalization of Land and Water defenders, to the overrepresentation of Indigenous children and youth in the welfare system and Indigenous peoples in the carceral system, colonialism cannot be viewed as part of so-called Canada’s distant history. It is an ongoing system of dispossession, extraction and violence.

As students, we must reject Orange Shirt Day being reduced to performative statements by governments, big banks and corporations; especially as these institutions continue to invest and prioritize resource extraction, land theft through legislation and actions such as Bill 5 and Bill C5 that fast-tracks pipeline development projects that impedes on Indigenous lands, sovereignty and their right to self-determination.

We’re marching alongside Grassy Narrows youth, leaders and community members in their fight for mercury justice and freedom, and are joined by students across the province. The student movement reaffirms its support and solidarity with the Grassy Narrows community and all Indigenous land and water defenders across Turtle Island, as they fight for their sovereignty.

All Out for Grassy Narrows on September 23rd!

Join us and other students across the province as we march alongside Grassy Narrows youth, leaders and community members in their ongoing fight for mercury justice and freedom, on September 23 at 12 PM. As a movement, students remain in total solidarity with Grassy Narrows, and all Indigenous land and water defenders fighting for their sovereignty, compensation, support and justice.

Looking to join the student contingent? Meet us at Grange Park directly, or join a contingent coming from a campus near you. Look for the Federation’s flags at Grange park or during the rally, and bring banners and signs to show your support for the Grassy Narrows Community! Students have a responsibility to show up in solidarity with Indigenous communities across the province!

For more than 60 years, the Grassy Narrows First Nation community has endured the effects of mercury pollution and environmental destruction of their traditional lands. On September 23rd, community members and leaders will join students and supporters in Toronto, with clear demands: fair compensation for those affected by the mercury crisis, an end to the pollution and environmental destruction caused by both Dryden Mill and by proposed mining and nuclear waste disposal projects, and support in restoring the Grassy Narrows community.

New semester, same goal. Fight and defend our public education. 🗣️

As we return back to our campuses, we are excited to welcome back returning and new members to the student movement. From Ottawa to Sault Ste.Marie to Thunder Bay to the GTA, campus by campus - we’re building student power across the province!

This semester we’ll continue to build on the momentum from last year - organizing, building coalitions, educating and agitating to win for students. The fight for free and accessible public education continues. Get organized and join the fight to demand this government keep its Hands Off Our Education!

Alors que nous retournons sur nos campus, nous sommes ravis d’accueillir des membres qui sont à leurs débuts ou de retour au sein du mouvement étudiant. D’Ottawa à Sault Ste. Students recognize that the upcoming year will be pivotal for the future of post-secondary education – and we saw it reflected in the record turnout at our General Meeting!

Most importantly, students unanimously passed resolutions for the next steps of the Hands Off! campaign, including a province-wide walkout on November 5th and escalating actions throughout the year building on the momentum from last semester.

As we approach the start of the new school year, we remind ourselves that the students united, will never be defeated! See you all soon on your campuses!

Les étudiantes et étudiants reconnaissent que l’année à venir sera cruciale pour l’avenir de l’éducation postsecondaire et le taux de participation record à notre assemblée générale en témoigne!

Plus important encore, les étudiantes et étudiants présents ont adopté à l’unanimité des résolutions concernant les prochaines étapes de la campagne Ne touchez pas à notre système d’éducation!, dont un débrayage à l’échelle de la province le 5 novembre ainsi que des mesures d’intensification tout au long de l’année, pour renforcer l’élan du semestre dernier.

À l’approche du début d’une nouvelle année scolaire, rappelons-nous que les étudiantes et étudiants unis ne seront jamais vaincus! Au plaisir de vous revoir sur vos campus respectifs!

…and that wraps up the 2026 General Meeting!

What an exciting weekend of building capacity, strategizing and making important decisions to shape the movement going forward! We’re also excited to see a unanimous approval of the next phase of the Hands Off! campaign – and it serves as a reminder that the biggest threat to the Ford Government is students mobilizing with their collective power! So whether it’s orientation or building out your mobilization capacity, we can’t wait to join you all on your campuses this fall and build student power together.

We’ve won before, and we’ll win again. THIS is your student movement – we’re united, we won’t be defeated, and we will win.

… et c’est ainsi que prend fin l’assemblée générale de 2026!

Nous avons vécu un week-end excitant où nous avons renforcé nos capacités, élaboré des stratégies et pris des décisions importantes qui définiront désormais le mouvement étudiant! Nous sommes également ravis de constater qu’on approuve unanimement la phase suivante de la campagne N’y touchez pas! – ce qui nous rappelle que la mobilisation des étudiantes et des étudiants et leur pouvoir collectif représentent la plus grande menace pour le gouvernement Ford! Par conséquent, qu’il s’agisse d’un effort d’orientation ou d’une mesure visant à consolider votre approche de mobilisation, nous sommes impatients de nous joindre à vous sur tous vos campus au cours de l’automne et de renforcer ensemble le pouvoir étudiant.

Nous avons déjà remporté la victoire et nous la remporterons de nouveau. Ce mouvement étudiant est le VÔTRE – que nous sommes unis, qu’on ne se laissera pas battre et que nous remporterons la victoire.
