CHT* - The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT for short) is an area situated in the southeastern part of Bangladesh bordering India and Myanmar. It covers 13,295 square kilometres and was a single district in the past and in 1985, it was divided into three districts: Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandorban. Topographically, the CHT is extensively hilly area where we, the Indigenous peoples, have been living
for centuries. There are 11 different linguistically speaking Indigenous communities namely, Marma, Tripura, Chakma, Khiang, Pangko, Garo, Bawm, Tanchangya, Kuki, Lusai and Mro. Chakmas, Marmas and Tanchongyas are Buddhists in religion, Tripuras are Hindus whereas Khiang, Pangko, Garo, Bawm, Kuki, Lusai and Mros are Christians. Our CHT is scenically absolutely beautiful as the forest and hills create this unique beauty.
