On October 7, 2023, as Hamas launched its attack on Israel, 15 militants entered the town of Ofakim, killing 27 civilians and five police officers. Zohar Wagner’s hybrid documentary recounts the extraordinary story of Rachel Edri and her husband, who were held hostage in their home for 20 hours. Through quick thinking, humour, and an instinctive act of hospitality—including baking cookies for her captors—Rachel managed to buy precious time until rescue.

Join Toronto Jewish Film Festival on October 4 for the screening of Cookies for Life. Tickets at:

Last chance to see Plague Crystals | Natalia Romik at Koffler Arts - exhibition closed on September 6.

The exhibition includes a series of symbolic representations of contemporary plagues in the form of objects enclosed within crystal towers.

The crystal vessels — vases, pots, and plates — are permanently fixed together, forming a translucent sculptural figure. This pyramidal construction recalls the plague towers of old, erected by survivors at the end of an epidemic to mark its passing. It invites close inspection of its constituent elements and provokes reflection on contemporary plagues.

Polish artist, architect, and researcher Natalia Romik presents her exhibition Plague Crystals.
