The questions have been sent to all five major parties in the province, including the New Democratic Party, the Conservative Party, the Green Party, CentreBC, and OneBC.

Click on the link above to read the responses. The NDP and Green Party are the only parties that have submitted their responses so far. As responses from other parties come in, they will be posted on this page.

The Federal Government’s Bill C-39 proposes alarming changes to Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. If passed, it would grant the Minister of Labour unprecedented, broad powers to unilaterally end legal strikes, enforce interim contract extensions, and impose binding arbitration based on broad criteria like “economic impact” or “social disruption.”

On September 30, the Confederation of Canadian Unions joins workers across the country in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, widely recognized as Orange Shirt Day. This solemn day honours the survivors of the residential school system, remembers the thousands of children stolen from their families, and reflects on the generational impacts of state-sponsored assimilation policies in Canada.

Why the CCU Opposes New Federal Restrictions on the Right to Strike

https://ccu-csc.ca/why-the-ccu-opposes-new-federal-restrictions-on-the-right-to-strike/

By CCU President Shawn Campbell: "The CCU’s resistance to these measures is rooted in a consistent, principled history. For years, we have stood firmly against the use of Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, which has historically allowed successive federal governments to interfere in federal disputes by directing the CIRB to impose binding arbitration or end work stoppages...

Canada’s unions have repeatedly proven that we are ready to build what this country needs, protect domestic jobs, and foster economic resilience. However, we cannot stand by while essential protections are offered with one hand, and our constitutional rights are stripped away with the other."
