These hands have so much of creation left to give
These hands have learned to stay nimble
They tire of monotony
They are heavy when I trace over and over
The lines I don’t see
These hands paint for hours
Until these eyes grow weary
These hands make me another cup of coffee and they write and erase
Write and then stop
These hands have learned to rest
when they need to
They have been through so much
There is still so much of creation in them
They bend things to my will
They make mistakes
These hands have never known how to stop themselves from doing and flowing and these hands hold memories
Hold flowers and crosses and stones
They are mine
They are yours
These people who use their hands to destroy what is created
Their hands know nothing of what they do
It is all done by the heart
Heal hands with your heart
Take care of them
For they are the hands that will build
creating a better life for us
There is still so much of creation left to give

Raise your hand if you're doing this work!! ✋

Hard truth: There's no way we will prevent our kids from encountering other adults and institutions who attempt to shame or coerce them. We live in an anti-child society, so it's bound to happen.

When it does, my hope is that our kids know how to name, reject it, and understand that they deserve to be treated better than that. I know it's not that neat and tidy of a process, and I understand there are coercive tactics that happen in schools and other institutions that may feel impossible to change.

Our kids need to know how they deserve to be treated, starting at home. I want our kids to be *shocked* if someone disrespects them. If they're treated sub-par at home, go out into the world, and are treated the same way, then that's what they think they deserve.

Let's show our kids (and inner kids) that they deserve better than that.

If you're looking for support in connecting the dots between your childhood and the way you parent AND also strengthen the bond you have with your child, then I've got you covered.

The Connected Kid Toolkit is a powerful toolkit for raising more confident, compassionate children and helping yourself become the deeply connected parent you aspire to be. Grab yours at the link in my bio or at KidToolkit.com
