A statement from Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Linda Debassige on :

Every year on , corporations come online to greenwash their image in an attempt to distract from their harmful actions and investments. Real climate solutions are being implemented and developed by Indigenous Peoples' worldwide based on principles of Indigenous Stewardship.

However, our progress and voices are being silenced on the global stage to benefit fossil fuel lobbyists who only want to bring solutions which benefit their wallets, not Mother Earth.

Increasing Indigenous representation in municipal governance matters, especially in Ontario, where the majority of Indigenous people live in urban centres. Strengthening Indigenous leadership at the municipal level helps ensure that policies, services, and community planning reflect the lived experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who call Ontario’s cities home.

AMO’s free information sessions will help you understand what it takes to become a candidate and offer critical strategies for campaigning successfully, navigating municipal systems, and leading with cultural integrity. These sessions are designed to support aspiring Indigenous leaders so they can bring their perspectives, knowledge, and priorities into municipal governance.
Sessions will be held virtually, with three dates to choose from:

👉 April 9
👉 May 6
👉 June 3

Facilitated by Melanie Pilon, the first Indigenous Mayor of Municipality of Wawa and member of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory and William Morin, member of Michipicoten First Nation and founder and leader of The First Peoples National Party of Canada (2004-2013).
