The Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC) is a national council of representatives from 11 denominational partners, which focuses on social justice, women's issues, ecumenism, and the growth of women's spirituality. We are the coordinating body in Canada for the World Day of Prayer and The Fellowship of the Least Coin. The Council respects diversity; fosters connections between church and society; creates opportunities for communication, education, advocacy and theological critique; and encourages expressions of spirituality rooted in women's experiences. Our organization traces its roots to women's missionary societies and operates on the principle of informed prayer and prayerful action. Through our major programs, donations, bequests and support from our denominational partners, WICC is able to offer grants annually to projects, within Canada and internationally, that benefit women and children.

Thank you Cathy Tubb – World Day of Prayer Field Rep!

Cathy Tubb, World Day of Prayer Field Rep for Ontario, retired from her position in May of 2026, and we are truly grateful for her attentive eye, quick responses and sense of humour.
Cathy began as a field rep in 2018 along with Linda Ervin and Janet MacFadyen. These three came to know each other well and learned who the key “go-to” person among the trio was for expertise on various WDP resources.
Cathy will remain busy with family and music. If you’re able to be in the north/east Toronto area, you may want to check out the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra as Cathy is a violinist for this group.

Lights, Camera, Action! Recording of the World Day of Prayer 2027 Service Video

Creating the WDP service video is a labour of love, prayerful action … and layers.
First, WICC receives the service from the international committee almost a year in advance. The 2027 theme is United in Prayer for Justice and Peace.
Next, a WICC board team reads through the service and carefully determines if any adaptations are required for Canada.
Then, WICC staff edits for grammar and pacing.
The Board-approved service is then turned into a script for a 55-minute service. Notes are inserted about sets, scene transitions and supporting graphics.

Once these pieces are in place, the script is sent to the volunteer readers for practice, and the videographer so that a reading screen will be ready for taping and camera angles can be determined.

On August 6, 2026, WICC staff and patient volunteers arranged the set pieces and costumes at the historic St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Lindsay, ON. Then, with a script in hand, Cath and Caroline directed the taping as the closed captions rolled, cameras recorded and volunteers from across Ontario took turns gallantly and graciously speaking the words and singing the songs prayerfully written and composed several years ago by WDPIC.

Over the summer, the videographer has spent time editing the “takes” into a smooth copy for WICC staff to review.

To all who participated in the recording of the WDP 2027 service video, thank you! The final version will be available online through wdpcanada.ca by November 2026. Additionally, USBs containing the video and other service materials will be available for purchase through the wdpcanada.ca store.

Introducing Peggy Malcom, a new WICC Board Member!

I am Peggy Malcolm, appointed to the WICC Board from the Women’s Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
I grew up in a church family, with my grandfather, father and oldest brother serving as Presbyterian ministers. My dad was also the General Secretary of the (then) Board of World Mission of the PCC, and so my younger days were filled with visitors from Canada and around the world. Our focus was always on the wider church and ecumenical events.
My home has ranged from Taiwan to Canada, in Hamilton, Cobourg and Pickering. As a student, I attended Laurier University in Waterloo and Western in London. Then I spent 2.5 years with CUSO in Indonesia working with a UN agency, followed by 35 years working with the Ontario Library Service.
I am active in my local Ottawa-area church and have helped to organize a community World Day of Prayer service for many years. The service is special to me as a chance to learn about another country and the concerns of the country’s women. As the Board chair for a local women’s shelter, I know how challenging life is for some women.
Earlier this year, I was invited to participate in the national WMS Council and was given the opportunity to participate as the WMS representative in WICC. I am very excited to share my experiences and “light” as part of the WICC Board. My favourite hymn goes back years.. “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”

Many thanks to WICT and WICC, sponsors of this 100th-anniversary launch of World Day of Prayer 2027 at Cu**er United, Toronto, on October 17th!

Attendees will take home a commemorative shopping bag, a 2027 prayer calendar, a copy of the service, a mini planning guide, and a 2-page WDP history sheet. There will be a skit, WDP 2027 music to learn, refreshments and a wonderful opportunity to mingle and make friends for life. Suggested donation amount: $20.

A WICC staff person will be available to answer questions about WDP and WICC, and will have a selection of 100th anniversary items for sale, including USBs with all the resources, tea towels and lapel pins.

Introducing New WICC Board Member - Rev. Dr. Lisa Waites

Rev. Dr. Lisa Waites is an ordained United Church of Canada minister with a doctoral degree in Christian Worship Studies. A prolific composer, liturgist, and publisher, Lisa has composed thousands of contemporary worship pieces, hymns, choral anthems, and liturgical “service music” for the global church. As a teenager, Lisa heard a sermon that described healthy Christian faith as a bird with two wings; one “wing” was right belief, through good theological teaching and knowledge of the Scriptures, and the second “wing” was right practice, the application of that theology and biblical teaching through social justice initiatives, volunteering, and “making a difference” in whatever circle or circumstances we encountered. Neglect either wing, that minister warned the congregation, and the “bird” of faith would end up flapping around in circles, off-balance and ineffective.

"That minister never knew how profoundly his analogy impacted me, but it has guided my faith, personally and professionally, for more than thirty years and it has shaped my involvement with “World Day of Prayer” services, too. I’ve deeply enjoyed providing musical and liturgical worship leadership, preaching, and hosting WDP events in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, and I have particularly appreciated the international, intercultural focus of these prayer services.

I am now on long-term disability leave from the United Church due to chronic illness. I live in Calgary, AB, with my husband and our young adult children. When I prayed about how to continue serving the church in this next season of life and ministry, WICC sprang to mind. I later learned that the WICC board had been simultaneously praying for God to send them new team members, which reminds me of 1 Cor 12 and of how God invites and appoints each of us, as members of his body, to the global Church. No one is excluded. Everyone belongs, through all of our days.
