Immunodeficiency Canada

Immunodeficiency Canada Provides patient support, education and research for a cure into Primary Immunodeficiency Individuals die due to misdiagnoses and delayed treatment.

Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent life threatening complications. The good news is that early diagnosis and treatment can help provide a cure and allow a normal life. Ethan, born in April 2005 with no T-cells, was successfully treated with a bone marrow transplant. Many other PI patients are treated with antibiotics, antifungals and antivirals to fight infections, or with repl

acement blood products (IVIG) containing antibodies to boost the immune system. Individuals with PI are not as unusual as you might think. In Canada, it is estimated that 29,000 individuals, children, teens and adults suffer from Primary Immunodeficiency. Each year over 1,000 children are referred to one of the five children’s hospitals in Canada to be tested for PI. We know from statistics that 70% of cases still go undiagnosed.

The World PI Week 2026 Before and After stories reminds us what we can truly accomplish as a united community. See how the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) created a unified digital registry with data from over 30,000 patients—supporting faster diagnoses and more precise treatments.

As we kick into full-swing with World PI Week, we’re bringing you one of our inspiring Before & After Stories – a testament to the power of awareness, action, and collective support across the Primary Immunodeficiency community.

🌟In this story, you’ll find out how the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) built a unified, digital registry with data from over 30,000 patients, and how it’s helping clinicians to achieve faster diagnoses and deliver precision treatments.

Each story in this series shows what happens when barriers are removed, voices are heard, and people receive the diagnosis, treatment, or recognition they’ve long deserved. This transformation is at the heart of our 2026 theme, We Can’t Wait.
