Camp Wanakita changed my life.
Growing up, I was anxious and uncertain because of my bleeding disorder. But at camp, I found confidence, independence, and a community that understood me.

It is where I learned to self infuse, it’s where I met role models who showed me what was possible, and it’s where I finally felt comfortable in my own skin.

Every year, we send close to 50 kids to camp to have that same opportunity. Walk for Wanakita, held at the Toronto Zoo is part of how we continue to make that possible. It’s a fundraising event that helps send kids in our community to camp and gives them the chance to build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills.

You can join us in person or take part virtually from wherever you are. Help us send kids to camp.

Register. Fundraise. Be part of something meaningful.

What an incredible weekend at our 2026 AGM!

From celebrating the recipients of our volunteer awards, to reconnecting with community members from across the province, to ending the day with bowling and plenty of laughs, it truly was an AGM to remember!

This year’s AGM also marked a historic moment for our organization, as our membership voted in favour of changing our name from Hemophilia Ontario to Bleeding Disorders Ontario. This change reflects our continued commitment to building a community where all individuals affected by bleeding disorders feel represented, welcomed, and included.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their voices, and helped make the weekend so special. Our community is what makes events like this so meaningful, and we’re excited for everything ahead.

Congratulations again to all of this year’s award recipients!

Living with a bleeding disorder means finding what works for you.
This is my setup, the items that help me stay organized, prepared, and confident in my treatment routine.

Everyone’s routine is different and that’s okay. What’s in your setup?

After a number of years of consideration, the Hemophilia Ontario Board of Directors has voted in favour of an organizational name change to Bleeding Disorders Ontario. This change reflects our commitment to ensuring that all individuals with bleeding disorders — no matter the diagnosis — feel welcomed, represented, and included in our organization.

The next step in the approval process is a vote by our membership at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). We encourage all members to take part in this significant moment in our history and participate in this critical vote. Your voice and perspective are valued, and the AGM will provide an opportunity to express your opinion on this important decision.

Members may attend in person or via Zoom, and all registered attendees will be able to vote. RSVP on our website https://www.hemophilia.on.ca/hemophilia/hemophilia-ontario-2026-agm-community-day/

Today is World Hemophilia Day

Across the world individuals and families are navigating life with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other bleeding disorders every day.
Today, we also recognize women and girls who bleed, whose experiences have too often gone unrecognized.

We are proud to be a part of a community built on strength, care, and connection. Sending love to our whole community!❤️
