Workman Arts is a multidisciplinary arts organization that promotes a greater understanding of mental health and addiction issues through creation and presentation. We support artists with lived experience through peer-to-peer arts education, public presentations and partnerships with the broader arts community.

Over the last 25 years, our community of artists with lived experience has been resilient in the face of many challenges and barriers, and continue to do so today.

The panel will be moderated by long standing artist member Jan Swinburne, who assisted in organizing the first edition of Being Scene, alongside Julian Diego (Artistic Director) and Fatma Hendawy (Visual Arts Manager).

When an artwork is created, it becomes an expression of an artist's inner world.

The artist considers how best to translate thought, emotion, memory, and experience into physical form.

Yet, there is no way to guarantee how art will be interpreted. Each of us approaches a work through a lens informed by our own perspectives and histories.

Acts of expression resist isolation by reminding us that understanding is not passive; it is something we practice. The practice is further enhanced when we do so in community.

Workman Arts continues to support evolving our understanding of mental health and addiction by fostering opportunities for creation and presentation for artists with lived experience.

Workman Arts is seeking a 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 (𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀) to develop and curate a small group exhibition & public program as part of

Workman Arts welcomes curatorial proposals that incite a range of intersectional narratives and conversations as it relates to mental health and/or addictions.

This year the curated exhibition will take place between 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 – 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 (dates TBD), and will focus on themes of 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙧, 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

What began 25 years ago as an initiative to brighten the hallways of CAMH, 𝘉𝘌𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘚𝘊𝘌𝘕𝘌 has grown into a vital platform for artists with lived experience of mental health and addiction challenges.

The works presented in the annual 𝘉𝘌𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘚𝘊𝘌𝘕𝘌 Juried Exhibition reflect the complexities of living with mental health and addiction. The diversity of artists, mediums, and styles demonstrates that there is no one way to share and interpret lived experience.

Workman Arts () recognizes art as an important tool for shaping a world that better supports those living with mental health and addiction. Art allows us to communicate, creating inspiration for dialogue. It offers stories without prescribing how they should be interpreted.
