Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, CASLPO joins organizations and communities around the world in raising awareness about elder abuse and the importance of protecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of older adults. đź’ś

Communication and hearing health play an important role in helping older adults stay connected, informed, and engaged in their communities. Speech-language pathologists and audiologists can help support communication access and identify concerns that may impact an older adult’s safety and quality of life.

Everyone deserves to age with respect, inclusion, and dignity.

June is Brain Injury Awareness Month. đź’š

This month, we recognize the impact that brain injuries can have on communication, cognition, hearing, swallowing, and daily life.

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists play an important role in supporting individuals living with brain injuries by helping them improve communication, participation, and quality of life throughout recovery and rehabilitation.

Brain Injury Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and recognize the strength and resilience of individuals, families, and caregivers affected by brain injury.

🧠 June is Aphasia Awareness Month.

Aphasia is a communication disorder that can occur as the result of a stroke or brain injury. It may affect a person's ability to speak, understand language, read, or write. While aphasia can make communication challenging, it does not affect intelligence.

This month is an opportunity to raise awareness about aphasia and the importance of creating accessible, inclusive communication for everyone.

Speech-language pathologists play an important role in assessing and treating aphasia, helping individuals strengthen communication skills and participate more fully in everyday life.

As Speech and Hearing Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on this year’s theme: Access Changes Everything 💬 When people can access communication care, they build skills, stay connected, and take part in everyday life. When they can’t, the impact can be far-reaching.

We thank Ontario’s audiologists and speech-language pathologists for the important work they do every day. 💙
