New podcast episode alert 📣 Listen now to Circle Time with the AECEO episode 23: Impact of Immigration Policy, with special guest Felise Lioanag.

Felise Lioanag is a RECE, a certified educator in the Philippines, an Early Childhood Educator in Singapore, and has prior experience as an Assistant Principal in her home country. Currently residing in Canada and recently promoted to Program Supervisor, Felise is a committed Early Years advocate, aspiring to elevate the status of Filipino Early Childhood Educators, striving for their rightful recognition and appreciation within the profession.

In Membership Meetings, AECEO members get updates about important issues in the ECE sector, learn about AECEO activities, connect with other members, and have opportunity to ask questions directly to our Policy & Membership Team.

If your AECEO membership is up to date, an email with the registration link will be sent to you. You can also register for the meeting on our website events page, but you must be logged in to your member account to do so! If you are not a member, join or renew your AECEO membership to receive the Zoom link.

The AECEO brings your voice to decision makers. We advocate for the respect, recognition, and compensation Ontario ECEs deserve. AECEO membership is the BEST way to build community, fuel advocacy, and support the work of your professional association.

Today Thơ and Patrícia from the AECEO team joined cohort 6 of the Bridging the Gap: Pathways to ECE program at Polycultural Immigrant & Community services for a class chat.

In our class chats, the AECEO team provides an overview of the current context of ELCC in Ontario and introduces students to the work of the AECEO (who we are, what we do and how we work).

Class and community chats are one of our favourite ways to introduce folks to advocacy and to invite them to join our campaigns 🩷

The provincial and federal governments have agreed to extend the $10aDay program in Ontario for another four years, but this extension comes with no promises of further lowering fees or increasing wages. While this extension averts an immediate funding cliff for families and child care operators, the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC) and the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO) warn that freezing both the wage floor and fee reductions severely undermines both the social and economic dividends of the $10aDay plan.

“You cannot expand child care spaces without educators to bring them alive, and modest wage improvements have not been high enough to address the workforce crisis,” said Amber Straker, Executive Director of the AECEO. What's next? Join the Care Counts Rally on October 29th 📣
Ontario has signed a four-year extension to their child care agreement, but the new plan freezes wage improvements, stalls fee reductions, and makes no new commitments to make affordable child care available for more families. Legislature will be back at the end of October, and we’ll be ready!

Join the AECEO, the OCBCC, the OFL, CUPE Ontario, Parents for Child Care, and more of our members, partners and allies for a lunch time rally on the South Lawn on Thursday October 29th at 12PM. We’ll be calling on the Ford government to immediately raise staff wages, and deliver on affordability, decent work, and end the waitlist crisis for families. More details coming soon!
