Last month, the Culture & Cuisine Activation Program (CCAP) brought people together through food, culture, art and community. 🌟

From Sundé Social presents: SS FEST by R.I.S.E. Edutainment (Rise Edutainment) to the Moon Festival Celebration by Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto), we loved seeing Scarborough’s neighbourhoods come alive.

What an amazing afternoon full of poetry, conversation, and community!

On Sunday, September 20th, we gathered at Heron Park for our third and final session of Tender Possibilities: Poetry as Gathering in KGO, a City of Toronto Cultural Hotspot Project 🌱

Led by featured poet Christopher Kaputo () and Tender Possibilities’ founder, , we gathered around the theme of Water, considering the functions of water, through its properties of cleansing and renewal.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at all three of the sessions! And although the poetry gatherings are over, it’s not the end of the project. Keep an eye out for more info on the projects our Youth Mentees, Chizaram Eje and Gracian Ndi (.r.a.c.i.a.n) have worked on during their time as mentees of the Cultural Hotspot program.

East H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Art, Resilience, Together) is back for 2026 with Survival Instincts — a creative program exploring what it means to adapt, connect, and imagine a better future together.

As climate catastrophes intensify, AI becomes increasingly embedded in our lives, and marginalized identities continue to be challenged, community care and adaptability can become tools for survival.

For q***r youth in Scarborough, simply existing can sometimes feel like survival. So this year, we’re assembling our own art survival kits: learning practical and creative skills, trusting our intuition, building resilience, and finding ways to weather whatever comes our way.

Last year, we explored the fantasy of Masquerades. This year, we’re looking at the instincts that emerge when we face reality.

🛠️ How do you adapt when the world around you changes?

East H.E.A.R.T. invites 2SLGBTQ+ and questioning youth ages 18–29 from Scarborough to join us for a multifaceted creative journey.

Together, we’ll explore:

🌿 Creative practices inspired by local flora and the natural environment
🧠 Conversations about q***r mental + sexual health

If your friends are visiting from far for the first time, where would you bring them for their first meal in Scarborough? Where would you bring them to showcase your neighbourhood? Maybe it’s your favourite green space, a familiar street where a memory was made, a local store to shop for the best ingredients when you’re homesick?🌳🐦

Drop by, design and collage a storefront with us at the third session of The Community Mapping Project, a three-part series exploring our neighbourhood through art and contribute your insights to inform our community map in north Scarborough. Bring your ideas, all materials provided!

With pre-cut templates and paper furniture, contribute to the flourishing community in Scarborough by designing your own shops! Collage and pay homage to an existing place you love in the community, or think outside the door to design your own. Tell us stories of the places you love visiting, and show us what’s missing from your daily routines!

Scarborough Arts’ 41st Annual Juried Exhibition, MUD PIES, 2026, is calling for your art!

Now in our 41st year, Scarborough Arts’ Annual Juried Exhibition continues to evolve, inviting artists to explore new ideas, perspectives, and ways of creating. And this year, we’re getting our hands dirty with MUD PIES.

Inspired by the childlike sense of wonder, whimsy, and play we often find in our earliest encounters with the natural world, MUD PIES asks artists to consider our relationship with soil and the earth beneath our feet. How does the earth shape our imagined and tangible connections to the people, places, and world around us?

We’re accepting visual, literary, and auditory arts. We’re especially excited to see any interactive works that invite people of all ages to play, explore, and engage.

Join us this Fall for FREE sketching workshops led by Wandy Cheng.

Over the course of 6 weeks, participants will learn different sketching techniques to capture the wonderful natural & concrete world around us!

Each week will focus on a specific area and fine-tune participants observation skills. The participants will learn about composition, cropping angles, different ways to urban sketch (line work vs. washes etc) so ultimately they can develop their eye and techniques to feel confident in sketching in public spaces.

Wandy Cheng is a Scarborough-raised artist from Hong Kong currently based in Toronto, Canada. She is dedicated to making impactful work that brings delight to everyday encounters. She helps people foster meaningful connections in their communities through illustrative public art and interactive workshops. Her work can be experienced in different municipalities across the province, working with clients such as Adidas, City of Craft and Dairy Farmers of Canada to bring memorable campaigns to life.

Currently, she is exploring serendipitous ways to bring small, intentional surprises that bring glee to people through ceramics and paper-cut. She is a regular guest artist at The Bitove Method, bringing creative visual art programs to enrich the lives of older adults living with memory loss.

Join us for another edition of Khadija Aziz’s course “South Asian Embroidery” this fall season.

This beginner-friendly course will explore four traditional South Asian embroidery techniques, their histories, and traditions. Over the course of six weeks, we will learn about Kantha, Phulkari, Chikankari, and Sh**ha. Each class will begin with a slideshow on a technique and its history, including who made the embroidery, when it was made, and why. To understand the technical skills required for each embroidery style, participants will first recreate traditional motifs associated with that technique. Then, participants will be invited and guided to create their own motifs, hand-drawn imagery, geometric patterns, or abstract compositions. They will transfer them onto fabric to create their own contemporary interpretation of South Asian embroidery styles.

Join us this Fall for FREE jewelry-making workshops! Join artist Jewelry Maker Laurie Poirier to create 6 of your own jewelry creations.

Working with Laurie over a 6 week program you will learn some of the fundamentals of handmade jewelry. This six-week workshop will teach you many techniques for making jewellery. All supplies and tools are included in this series.

Participants will receive a package at the first class marked session 1-6.

Join us for a return of Kay Nadjiwon's workshop "Intro to Beading” this fall season for six weekly 2-hour workshop sessions where you'll learn some introductory beadwork skills, including brick, pe**te, and flat stitch. Together, we'll practice these techniques and work on creating our own pair of fringe earrings, a beaded wrist lanyard, and a small pin.

Kay Nadjiwon (they/them) is a q***r 2S Anishinaabe (Ojibwe + Potawatomi) artist raised and working on Williams Treaty Territory. They are a member of Batchewana First Nation and have familial ties to Neyaashiinigmiing. Their interdisciplinary practice spans photography, beadwork, textiles, sculpture, and installation. They hold a BFA in Photography and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art, Media & Design. Outside of their own creative practice, they work in community arts programming and workshop facilitation.
