This month, we're excited to feature Mariana Akemy () as our . ✨

Mariana Akemy is a Scarborough-based ceramic artist originally from Brazil, and the maker behind Art by Akemy. Her work lives somewhere between memories of growing up in the suburbs of São Paulo, a song stuck in her head, a morning cup of coffee, and the strange, wonderful worlds of anime.

For more than a decade, Mariana worked in corporate marketing. But clay brought her back to curiosity, intuition, and the reminder that life is more than paying bills and clearing a to-do list. We are also here to be surprised.

A little look back at the launch of the Destination Scarborough Culture & Cuisine Activation Program (CCAP) Convening on July 20, 2026 ✨

Last month, we brought together artists, community leaders, BIAs, Chambers of Commerce, restaurants, and local changemakers to imagine how food, arts, and culture can come together to create meaningful experiences across Scarborough.

From thoughtful conversations and panel discussions to new connections and collaborations, the day was all about celebrating the incredible people, stories, and flavours that make Scarborough special. 🍴🎨

CCAP is delivered through Destination Scarborough, a collaboration between Scarborough Arts and Eat More Scarborough, with support from the City of Toronto.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared ideas, and helped kick off this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see where these conversations lead!

It's hard to believe it's already been a month since the World in a Block Party! ❤️

A huge thank you to all of the incredible artists who shared their creativity, talent, and energy over both weekends. You helped make the event such a vibrant celebration of Scarborough's communities.

A special thank you to Workman Arts () for supporting artists throughout both weekends. We’re so grateful for your partnership and for helping make these opportunities possible. ✨

✨ Meet the Youth Mentees for Cultural Hotspot: KGO & Poetry as Gathering!

🎉 After an incredible response, we're excited to welcome Chizaram Eje and Gracian Ndi as our 2026 Youth Artist Mentees.

Chizaram Eje
Chizaram is a multidisciplinary artist who writes creatively through poetry and narrative essays, where she explores a variety of subject matter - from her personal journey through youth to the mundanities of everyday life. She also sketches portraits, using visual media to express her perspective on the likeness of her muses.

Gracian Ndi (.r.a.c.i.a.n)
Gracian (she/her) is a black q***r poet, writer and visual artist. Her disciplinary work deeply explores themes of inherited trauma, fractured environments, and identity. Through poetry, Gracian maps the complexities of memory and belonging, creating profound spaces for healing, connection, and systematic reflection.

Chizaram and Gracian will work alongside poet and facilitator Farhia Tato () to help shape a community-based poetry program in Kingston–Galloway/Orton Park. Through this mentorship with Scarborough Arts and Tender Possibilities, they'll gain hands-on experience in arts facilitation, community engagement, and program development while helping create spaces for connection through poetry.

We're excited to have them on this journey and can't wait to share what they'll create with the community. 💙
