BREAKING: A Toronto lab that experiments on beagles is suing Ontario to overturn new laws restricting most invasive medical cat & dog experiments.

The new laws came after Animal Justice helped expose a cruel secret dog lab at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario.

Last year Last Chance for Animals (LCA) released undercover footage from Nucro-Technics showing beagles being restrained, struggling, & crying during procedures, vomiting & collapsing after exposure to test substances, & showing signs of psychological distress before being killed.

Animal Justice will seek to intervene in the case to help defend these hard-won protections for cats & dogs!

UHN worked with all partners to turn a parking lot into 51 homes with physicians, nurses, community health workers, psychiatrists and peer workers all at home.

Social Medicine Housing is a model we need to scale at the national level to keep people alive.

“Matriarchy is not just the reverse of patriarchy. It’s not women in charge of everything. It’s child-centred.”

Matriarch Movement “When we asked what matriarchy means in her community, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril Alethea Aggiuq, explained that it isn’t a word commonly used there, even though strong women have always led. She was taught traditional Inuit leadership was fluid and depended on the situation. Out on the land, the hunters lead because they know how to keep everyone safe. In the home, the mother leads. At her grandmother’s house, her grandfather would never dare step in.

She also named the hard part: colonial trauma has entrenched patriarchy in Inuit communities, like everywhere else. But the examples of strong women are still all around us, in our families and in our homes.

And as we talked about, it’s matrilineal in so many of our communities. Stacey Aglok MacDonald Stacey Aglok ,shares that when someone wants to know who you are, the question is always “who’s your mom?”

Damn this got me….

The woman in the chair is Eleanor. Eighty-one years old.
The golden retriever pressing against her is Duke.
Seven years old. Eleanor has had Duke since he was eight weeks old.
Eleanor’s health has declined significantly over the past year.
Eleanor has been on a waiting list for a care facility for four months. The facility does not accommodate pets.
Eleanor told the intake coordinator that she had been awake most of the night before. That she had sat with Duke in the kitchen and tried to explain it to him. She knew he didn’t understand. She talked to him anyway.

His body weight leaning into her. His head in her lap.
His eyes on her face.
Eleanor’s hand shook as she signed the forms.
Duke put both front paws over her knee.
She told him: “You’re going to be okay. Someone is going to love you so well. I need you to let them.”
Duke looked at her face.
Eleanor stood slowly. Handed the coordinator Duke’s leash. His favorite blanket. A bag of his preferred food. A folded piece of paper with his routine written out in careful handwriting. Morning walk time.
Eleanor pressed her hand flat against the glass door.
Then she walked to her car.
