This is an excellent opportunity for a young choral enthusiast, ideally between the ages of 18-30, to gain hands-on experience with organizational leadership, represent their peers in the choral community, and make an impact on choral singing throughout Ontario.

Choirs Ontario joins with the entire Canadian choral community in mourning the passing of Ruth Watson Henderson — indisputably one of our country’s most important choral musicians.

Across a remarkable career as a composer, organist, and a collaborative pianist for choirs such as the Festival Singers and the Toronto Children’s Chorus, her music and musicianship inspired literally an entire country to sing, touching choral leaders and singers across generations.

Among her many lifetime honours, she was most recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2024 in recognition of her lifelong contribution to choral music. Choirs Ontario awarded Ruth a Distinguished Service Award in 1996 and continues the biennial Ruth Watson Henderson Choral Composition in her honour.

Our condolences to the Henderson family at this time.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate Ruth’s life and legacy by singing her music for many years to come!
