More about our Bumble Bee Recovery Program:
Since the 1990s, bumble bee numbers have been plummeting and that spells ecological disaster. Here at Wildlife Preservation Canada, we work to save at risk species of bumble bee from disappearing by monitoring them in the wild, breeding them for release at our conservation lab in Ontario, and studying their p**p for parasites! We even host special community science events across the province to track population sizes, locate declining populations and provide hands-on training programs with the goal of expanding our efforts across Canada. We are the only organization in the country working to rebuild at risk bumble bee populations through conservation breeding.

The KM K.M. Hunter Charitable Foundation is proud to support the Varley Art Gallery. Our Grants help the gallery purchase works to add to the collection of Indigenous Women artists held at the Gallery. This piece Favourite Daughter by Jessie Oonark was bought last year with help from one of our grants. Pictured here is myself Sarah Hunter and Anna Kajtar my colleague at the Foundation.

This fall I was thrilled to visit this installation at Nuit Blanche by Wolfaz Wolf⁷a:z Otahyǫ’:ni: Wolfaz was the winner this year of the Indigenous Artist Award at the Toronto Arts Council sponsored by the KM Hunter Charitable Foundation. We are so proud of this award and congratulations Wolaz!! I can't wait to see what you do next!!

From 1995 to 2018 we ran the K.M. Hunter Artist awards and had our celebration party at the Gladstone Hotel every year. This is a shot of James Brown Rahaset and myself a few years ago at one of these celebrations. We granted over a million dollars to artists over that time period. This program was started by my father Martin Hunter and together with the help of the Ontario arts Council we helped run the juries and celebrated the work of the artists. Wonderful to support the day of the girl breakfast at Crossroads in Oct. They do such important work to support Girls and Women in Africa, working to stop gender based violence and educate young girls and women about their rights.

It was wonderful to participate in the event this week put on every year by Crossroads International that helps support women and girls in Africa. International day of the girl had its roots in Canada and is now an international day to celebrate, remember and support girls. We are a long time supporter of the important work of crossroads International
