Green Thumbs Growing Kids offers food growing and environmental education programs in 3 inner-city schools and 2 park sites. Our programs take place in the east downtown Toronto neighbourhoods of St. James Town, Cabbagetown, and Regent Park. We reach over 3,000 children from these neighbourhoods each year as well as youth and adults. Our gardens are about kids and their grownups, plants and their people - from all over the world!

Photo 2: Student Sandor Lancos, proud harvester of Sweet Potatoes - part of the 400 lbs or so that came out of the beds on the Eastdale rooftop this October. Beds are about 12-14โ€ deep, allowing for this crop to flourish!

Next step - figuring out how to make Sweet Potato Chips and live up to the Slips to Chips name of the project! Thanks to the School Food Infrastructure Fund, via Farm to Cafeteria Canada, for the funding to purchase the slips and the equipment for chip-making.

We are launching a fundraising campaign to grow school gardens, food literacy, and hands-on nature education in downtown Toronto.

This fundraiser will support:
- School garden-to-kitchen programs in 10 schools
- Indigenous-informed volunteer training
- Community access to Green Roof Garden in Regent Park

Weโ€™ve received two grants that allow us to expand our infrastructure in meaningful ways!

However the grants donโ€™t cover the cost of staff, so weโ€™re launching a fundraising campaign here on Facebook to raise $15,000. This initiative is part of our larger campaign to raise $100,000 to match the infrastructure grants. We need your support to help bring these projects to life.

In our 26th season, we are helping to lead the way in Canadaโ€™s new Universal School Food Program, as well as demonstrating rooftop farming in Regent Park.
