She pioneered the Breast Diagnostic Program at William Osler Health System, helping streamline breast cancer diagnosis and care. A passionate advocate for cancer screening, health equity, and medical education, she also contributes to community engagement and medical training at Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine.

Dr. Allen is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto, Division Head of Infectious Diseases at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and holder of the Bastable-Potts Chair in Infectious Diseases Research.

He is also a Principal Investigator of genCARE, a groundbreaking Canadian research initiative focused on understanding the genetic and environmental factors contributing to health disparities affecting Black communities, including aggressive forms of breast cancer.

🩷 Breast cancer awareness is most meaningful when it reflects the women and communities it is intended to serve.

For Black women, culturally relevant breast health education means more than sharing information. It means creating space for our experiences, questions, and concerns; improving access to trusted information; and helping women feel informed and empowered when making decisions about their health.

As we move from Awareness to Action this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we must continue to ensure that Black women are seen, heard, and included in conversations about breast health, risk, screening, treatment, and survivorship.

Because health education is more powerful when women can see themselves and their experiences reflected in it.
