1000 Lanterns - Walking Together in Light 🏮

You are formally invited to celebrate National Indigenous History Month with the CCCGT at the Toronto Zoo. In partnership with Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, we come together in friendship, culture and shared futures.

1000 Lanterns started as a commemorative event in honour of the Indigenous children from residential schools buried in unmarked graves. When this news came out, the Chinese community was profoundly saddened and came together in memorial for these events. In the 4th year of hosting 1000 Lanterns, we look forward to continuing a relationship of renewal, reconciliation, friendship and multiculturalism. Together we remember the past and look forward to a shared future of collective hope.

There will be performances by Jay Lomax and speeches by Indigenous Elders.
Dinner will be catered by Indigenous chef Shawn Adler of Pow Wow Café.
Please RSVP by June 8th, 2026 with [email protected].

Date: Sunday June 14, 2026
Time: 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Location: The Toronto Zoo

On May 19th, we gathered at CCCGT for the Lanting Garden Groundbreaking Ceremony. Joined by dignitaries from three levels of government, as well as community leaders and members, we celebrated the beginning of Phase 3.

The Lanting Garden has been part of CCCGT’s 1994 plan to strengthen the institution’s role in the community by providing a versatile outdoor space for cultural programming and a “living classroom” where visitors can explore Chinese horticulture, architecture, and philosophy. We are grateful to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life, and we cannot wait to welcome the community into Lanting Garden as it grows. 🎋🌱
