We’re proud to share a meaningful update from our founder, .

With nearly 20 years in education, including 7 as a high school math and physics teacher, Yollanda has worked closely with teens and parents across schools, community programs, and nonprofit spaces. That experience, combined with her background as an engineer, Mandarin school founder, coach, author, and mental health advocate, has shaped her deep understanding of the pressures young people and families face today.

Yollanda has now stepped into a new chapter as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and practicum student, continuing her lifelong commitment to supporting youth and families. Her clinical work focuses on teens and parents, particularly within the Asian diaspora and culturally diverse communities, navigating identity, family expectations, and emotional wellbeing.

She is currently welcoming a limited number of clients for virtual therapy sessions in English and Mandarin, with some reduced-cost spots available during this supervised training period.

We’re grateful to see our founder continue this work with the same care, integrity, and heart that has always been at the centre of Girl. Strong. 💜

This week in The Power Within, we talked about appearance ideals that we are bombarded with in the media.

We discussed videos like this one from where moms and daughters discuss what they like/don’t like about themselves, and how we can redefine and celebrate our unique beauty, inside and out.

Our founder, , had the honour of delivering Confident Me—a body confidence program developed by and ’s Self-Esteem Project—at an assembly at .💜

Over 500 students and staff attended and shared powerful reflections on body image, self-esteem, and how social media and comparison culture shape how we see ourselves.

One of the most moving moments? When Yollanda asked:
“Raise your hand if you’ve ever looked in the mirror and found something you didn’t like.”

So many little hands went up.
More than anyone expected. 🥺

A reminder that these conversations are needed—early and often.

We offer the Confident Me program and resources free of charge to schools, parents, therapists, and anyone interested in supporting youths.

We Are Girl. Strong.

Girl. Strong. is a charity organization dedicated to teaching young girls the skills to know their own value and how to build on it to create their own future. Inspired by an amazing grandmother, a strong little girl, and personal experiencing working with young during socially difficult times in their lives, Girl. Strong. is a multifaceted program designed to empower young girls between 6-12-years-old to make them realize their own potential without external validation or permission.

In our current digital world, 70% of young girls experience low-self esteem, and 30% experience anxiety and depression from the high increase in socialization through social media. The constant flow of images of how girls and women should look, act and behave sets a normalized impossible standard for girls to live up to. With such a dramatic rise in mental health, it’s time we empowered our girls to know themselves, their value, and their own voice.

With 37% of American 4th graders believing boys are smarter than girls, and 17% of American 4th graders believing a man would make a better boss than a woman (a statistic that typically increases amongst young women of Asian, Black or Indigenous descent), it’s critical we support our girls to see themselves as future leaders and young women.
