Two of Sarnia-Lambton's largest food banks are fully reopening after announcing anonymous donations at the same time on Thursday afternoon.

The Salvation Army Sarnia Community and Family Services shared the news as a "major update" in a Facebook post at around 2 p.m.

"We just received an anonymous donation of $100,000," the post read. "This is going to make it so our food bank can operate for the remainder of this year and beyond. What an amazing community we serve in. We cannot thank everyone enough for your generosity."

The Inn of the Good Shepherd - Sarnia also posted to its social media page it was "thrilled to share" that it too had received an "extraordinarily generous anonymous donation."

"We are able to remove the current 40-household daily cap at our food bank," the Inn's Facebook post read. "Over the past several weeks, we have faced difficult decisions as we worked to stretch our food supply and continue meeting the growing needs of our community. This remarkable gift provides much-needed relief and will allow us to once again serve all eligible households during our regular food bank hours."

The Inn announced on May 19 it would be restricting access to its food bank.

On June 1, the Salvation Army announced a temporary closure of its food bank.
