Equal pay and fair wages for work of equal value should be part of Canada’s democratic fabric.

Today is Equal Pay Day in Ontario. Today’s date marks the additional time (three and a half months) women needed to work to earn what men earned in 2025,

On average, women earn 32% less than men in Ontario. Indigenous and Black women earn just 58 cents, women with disabilities 57 cents, and South Asian women 55 cents, for every dollar earned by a white man.

This pay gap is a result of longstanding government policies and priorities that underpin our colonial history founded on a patriarchal system of capitalism. In addition to earning less than men, women are overrepresented in lower-paid, undervalued work. They also take on most of the unpaid work associated with caregiving responsibilities.

Until our society values women’s work and equal pay, women will continue to face unjust and discriminatory barriers to achieving economic equality. It’s why we were founded in 1974, and unfortunately, it's why the demand for our services has never been greater.

At Times Change, we’re committed to advancing pay equity by supporting women facing systemic barriers through counselling, skills training, and educational pathways to connect them to meaningful employment.

“Fake it till you make it” might sound cliché, but there’s truth in it. 💛 The anxiety you feel in an interview is often louder in your mind than it is in the room.

Nervousness is something you feel inside. It rarely shows as strongly as you think it does. What feels overwhelming internally can still look calm and capable to an employer.

Confidence doesn’t always mean feeling fearless. Sometimes it means showing up anyway. Answering the question. Taking the breath. Trusting that you are more prepared than you feel.

You don’t have to eliminate anxiety to succeed. You can move forward with it.
