Annual Report Spotlight: Addressing Intimate Partner Violence Through Prevention and Partnership

As part of our 2025–2026 Annual Report, we're highlighting an important issue affecting children, youth, and families across our communities: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

Our first graphic explores the growing impact of IPV across Ontario and Toronto, where rates continue to rise and children are exposed to violence in their homes. The data underscores the urgent need for meaningful action, particularly as child welfare, community, and social service sectors work together to support safer outcomes for families.

The second one highlights CCAS's Male Engagement Worker (MEW) Program, which takes a proactive approach by working directly with fathers and male caregivers to promote accountability, and safer outcomes for children and families. Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), the program is delivered in partnership with Catholic Family Services and the Children's Aid Society of Toronto.

By focusing on mentorship, emotional support and practical guidance, the MEW Program helps address a critical gap in the response to IPV while supporting the safety and well-being of children and families.

Today, we celebrate International Youth Day and this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” While young people around the world experience different realities, they share many of the same hopes for their future: quality education, meaningful opportunities, mental health supports, dignity, and a safe, sustainable world.

As a child and youth-focused organization, we have the privilege of supporting children and youth as they grow, learn, and discover their potential. Every day, we see the resilience, creativity, and leadership of young people, and we are inspired by their ability to overcome challenges and create positive change in their communities. On International Youth Day, we celebrate their achievements, and reaffirm our commitment to helping every young person thrive.

This month in our Focus on Foster Care series, we're tackling another common misconception about fostering.

❌ Myth: Foster parents have to stay at home and cannot work outside of the home.

✅ Fact: Many foster parents work outside the home. What matters most is having the flexibility and support needed to meet a child or youth’s individual needs, along with a plan to ensure those needs are met during work hours.

Emancipation Day is observed across Canada on August 1, marking the moment the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect in 1834 — ending legal human bo***ge across the British Empire and freeing hundreds of thousands of people of African descent.

Today, we honour the strength, resilience, and heritage of Black communities, while acknowledging the history of enslavement of both Black and Indigenous peoples on the land that is now Canada.

Recognized nationally since 2021, Emancipation Day is a time for reflection, learning, and celebration — from community gatherings and music to conversations about the realities of anti‑Black and anti‑Indigenous racism.

CCAS stands with communities working toward justice, dignity, and equity.
