For the first time, pancreatic cancer is gaining meaningful attention. We have seen this pattern in other cancers: when visibility rises, investment accelerates, and survival rates improve.

This is the moment we cannot afford to miss. Without sustained investment and focus to keep pancreatic cancer in the spotlight, progress will stall, and funding will continue to lag behind more visible diseases. Let's not lose momentum now.

Sometimes, what matters most is talking to someone who understands.

Through our partnership with , people affected by pancreatic cancer can access one-to-one peer support from trained volunteers with lived experience. It is a space for connection, understanding, and support when it’s needed most.

At this time, Wellspring is prioritizing volunteers who are living with pancreatic cancer or actively caregiving, so support can reflect the needs of those navigating a current diagnosis.

If pancreatic cancer has touched your life, you don’t have to carry it alone.

A few weeks ago, we shared that daraxonrasib was emerging as one of the most important developments pancreatic cancer has seen in years.

Now, there is another step forward.

As we mark Clinical Trials Day today, this update reflects the critical role clinical research plays in moving new treatment options forward.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a “safe to proceed” letter to , allowing the company to begin an Expanded Access Program for daraxonrasib in patients with previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer who have exhausted all other treatment options. Daraxonrasib is not yet approved; however, this program is intended to allow access to the investigational drug outside of a clinical trial. At present, this Expanded Access Program is limited to patients in the United States.

For Canadians, this is not approval yet. But it is a positive sign and a reminder of why faster access to new treatment options is so important.

For patients and families facing pancreatic cancer now, progress like this shows that new options are moving closer. In a disease where advances have been far too limited for far too long, that is significant.

Pancreatic Cancer North America exists to push for this kind of change: earlier detection, better treatment options, and improved survival.

April is National Oral Health Month, a reminder that oral health is closely connected to overall health. 🦷

Emerging research suggests the bacteria and fungi in our mouths may offer clues about pancreatic cancer risk, and could one day help support earlier identification of people at higher risk.

While this research is still early, it adds to a growing understanding of pancreatic cancer risk and the urgent need for earlier detection.

This study shows an association, not cause and effect, and saliva-based testing is not currently a diagnostic test.

Some people change systems. Others change lives. Jim O’Toole did both.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jim, a friend and partner to Pancreatic Cancer North America, and a relentless advocate for fire fighters across Canada. Jim dedicated himself to advancing presumptive cancer coverage in provinces across the country and to ensuring those facing occupational cancer had access to the mental health supports they deserve.

That this disease ultimately took his life is a stark and painful reminder of the risks fire fighters carry in the line of duty and why Jim fought as hard as he did. Together, we worked with Jim to help see pancreatic cancer recognized in multiple provinces. That progress will stand as part of his legacy. But more than that, it was his unwavering commitment to his fellow fire fighters – to their health, their dignity, and their families – that defined him.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Crystal, sons Gavin and Ryan all who knew and loved Jim.

For someone facing pancreatic cancer, progress is not abstract. It’s measured in the moments that matter most - like being there for one more birthday, one more holiday or one more baseball game.

New results from Revolution Medicines regarding the drug Daraxonrasib are a major step toward making those moments possible for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer.

If approved by regulators, this could lead to a viable new treatment option - a meaningful milestone in a disease where progress has been far too limited for far too long.

Pancreatic Cancer North America partner and advocate Jen Lovrics shared what this drug meant to her family: “My husband Connor was part of the phase 1 clinical trial for this drug. It gave him six months of ‘normal.’ He was the first of his oncologist’s patients at Princess Margaret to be part of this trial, outside the U.S., before it was offered in Canada. It is a big, emotional inspiration to see how far it’s come. He was part of something truly groundbreaking.”

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers and one of the least understood.

That is why Pancreatic Cancer North America exists.

We are relentless about advancing early detection, so fewer people are diagnosed at a late stage. But for those currently facing the disease, we are pushing for options like this.
