Femme International

Femme International Femme International is a menstrual health NGO that uses education, distribution, conversation, and data to address the issues surrounding menstruation.

It's not rocket science, it's a period. Menstruation is a normal, natural occurrence for approximately half the global population. And yet it is shrouded in shame and secrecy, and used to diminish people during their periods. As a result, menstruation becomes an issue that affects all aspects of someone's life, from their physical and mental health, to their ability to attend work or school, from

their income generation opportunity to their social life. It has repercussions on quality of life, gender equality, and economic development. Femme's Twaweza Programme uses fun and comprehensive education sessions to teach people about menstrual and reproductive health and management. Following that, menstruating participants are given a reusable menstrual product of their choice: menstrual cups or reusable pads. We prioritise M&E and research - if something is not being measured then it doesn't matter, and we've had enough of menstruation being an invisible problem women are expected to solve on their own. Menstruation is an issue that we can solve. After all, it's not rocket science, it's just a bloody period. Pun intended. Menstrual Health & Dignity for All!

We held a MHM (Menstrual Health Management) session with 20 women and girls with disabilities in Nairobi, Kenya. Together, we unpacked critical topics — from understanding the female reproductive system to debunking myths around menstruation and shared PMS remedies.

Through honest conversations, we uncovered unique menstrual challenges faced by PWDs, including late menstrual onset.

Each participant received a Femme Kit — complete with reusable menstrual products, hygiene essentials, and a safe space to explore options like menstrual cups and reusable pads.

Menstrual health is a right — not a privilege. Let’s keep breaking the silence.

Kicking off 2025 with Impact! 🎉

Femme International is thrilled to have partnered with Kariobangi Social Justice Centre to a pad drive activity of the year!

Through this impactful program, we reached 105 girls in Kariobangi North, equipping them with critical education on menstruation, anatomy, and breaking the silence around period-related taboos. To support their menstrual health, each girl also received a set of AfriPads reusable pads.

We’re committed to reaching even more girls, both in and out of school, and broadening our focus to include older women in the community.

Let’s continue working together to end period shame, promote period pride, and ensure equal access to menstrual health education and resources.
