It's not rocket science, it's a period. Menstruation is a normal, natural occurrence for approximately half the global population. And yet it is shrouded in shame and secrecy, and used to diminish people during their periods. As a result, menstruation becomes an issue that affects all aspects of someone's life, from their physical and mental health, to their ability to attend work or school, from
their income generation opportunity to their social life. It has repercussions on quality of life, gender equality, and economic development. Femme's Twaweza Programme uses fun and comprehensive education sessions to teach people about menstrual and reproductive health and management. Following that, menstruating participants are given a reusable menstrual product of their choice: menstrual cups or reusable pads. We prioritise M&E and research - if something is not being measured then it doesn't matter, and we've had enough of menstruation being an invisible problem women are expected to solve on their own. Menstruation is an issue that we can solve. After all, it's not rocket science, it's just a bloody period. Pun intended.
