A Warm Encounter without Words
By Rain

A tiny critter with a shiny coated shell leisurely strolled by. I was worried it'd be crushed under a shoe, so decided to gently move it to a safer spot.

I found a leaf and carefully scooped the critter up and skillfully walked outdoors, trying my best to be as balanced as possible. I hoped it wouldn't be a bumpy ride for the critter might get carsick! Phew...only a few steps left.

I let my gaze shift for just one second, but when my eyes returned to the leaf, it was gone!

"Oh! There you are!"
The tiny bug curiously gazed at me. I assumed it was saying "thanks"! I was just relieved to see my tiny friend again.

When I stood in front of the window enjoying this moment, a few people passed by. I shared my delightfulness with them, and they all made a wish for this tiny bug.
It seems like I was being kind to this tiny bug, but actually, I think it was just giving me the opportunity to practice kindness!

Joyful Blessings
By Lee J

It's always a joy when mom and dad come visit! :) Though I'm in my mid-thirties now, but in their eyes, I'm always their little girl. And when I'm with them, I sometimes feel like that kid in me never grows up.

I love updating my parents about the newest additions to our monastery, whether it be the creative artwork on our class bulletin board, our progress in the curriculum, or the latest bloom in our garden.

Especially during this time of year, with PEI's beautiful Island backdrop of wildflowers and lush greenery, it's really such a blessing to be able to have those meaningful conversations with them, as we walk around the monastery.

There are so many things to be grateful for and so important to count the blessings! I'm grateful to be alive, I can do what I love to do as a Buddhist nun, my parents are still healthy, I have friends to share this journey of life, the PEI skies, every kind smile, every kind thought, every prayer....thank you for them.

Beautiful spring flowers! Wishing everyone a day blooming with joy, warmth, and many blessings!

We meet again, Hoya!
By Genevieve Lee

It was after lunch and I was walking towards my classroom to prepare for my afternoon Buddhist lessons when my friend Anny suddenly stopped by my desk and asked me if I have a minute to spare.

Puzzled, I said yes and followed her down the corridor.
After a few steps and we walked to the staircase near our classroom,
Then Anny exclaimed, "Look! Aren't they beautiful? There are 21 of them! I heard that they bloomed last night!", pointing at a bundle of flowers in front of us.
Stunned by their beauty, I couldn't help but to stare at them for a moment.

This beautiful flower plant was given to us by one of our dear friends Angela, but what's even more special is that I later found out that Hoya carnosas are also native to Taiwan, where many of our nuns are from! :) To see a beautiful friendship flower blooming, to see a reminder of home...all blessings to have and share.

And so, we hope Hoya brightens your day too!

Hi! My name is Sandra and I'm on the kitchen team. :)
I help welcome in the fresh produce that farms and stores deliver to us every week. I was delighted when I received boxes of PEI sweet potatoes. Locally-grown sweet potatoes are so fresh and high in nutrition. They also remind me of the sweet potatoes I used to eat growing up in Taiwan. To all the farmers, thank you for putting in so much effort in growing these pesticide-free root vegetables.

Not only are these locally grown tubers neatly wrapped in brown boxes, the delivery man from Growers Station always handle them with so much care when delivering to our monastery. I am really grateful for everyone’s help in providing us with PEI Sweet Potatoes.
