Aušra Sports Club

Aušra Sports Club Aušra Sports Club was organized to provide a quality sports experience for individuals of Lithuanian descent and their local parish community.

Aušra Sports Club was formed in 1955 by Resurrection Parish members in Toronto, Canada. Aušra offers youth and adult basketball, hockey, swimming among other sports programmes. Aušra competes locally in city house leagues and in international tournaments hosted by similar Lithuanian junior sports organizations in the US and Europe.

Dear Ausra Members and Friends,

In the light of Thanksgiving, thank you to the Parents for introducing your kids to the world of sports, and to every Coach and Volunteer who velcros the volleyball nets and cranks the backboards before each practice.

Having played basketball with Aušra since I was five years old, this club's given me lifelong friendships, a deep love for the game, and a strong sense of teamwork. The heart of Aušra has always been our unity, equality, and bendruomenė.

My core commitment to you is simple: to ensure our Lithuanian community thrives, our games remain fun and exciting, and every athlete receives immense value the moment they step onto the court.

On behalf of the entire Aušra board, I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and joyous Thanksgiving filled with great food and wonderful memories.

Former Toronto Aušra Sports Club Basketball player and Coach, Ed Gataveckas, was recently recognized for his achievements. "Congratulations to Ed Gataveckas who was honoured with his teammates at the 40th-reunion celebration for the 1986 Hamilton Tiger-Cats Grey Cup Football championship team on August 15, 2026 at Hamilton Stadium. Ed played ten seasons for Hamilton from 1981 to 1990, making 4 Grey Cup appearances and winning the Grey Cup in 1986. Prior to playing in the CFL Ed played 5 years for the Toronto Humberside Huskies high school football team and was a linebacker for the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from 1977 to 1980. Ed was inducted into the Acadia University Sports Hall of Fame in 2015." All Right Ed !!!

Dear Extended Aušra Table Tennis Family,
Sveiki visi! As we prepare for the 2026–2027 athletic season, Aušra Sports Club extends a warm invitation to all returning players, alumni, youth athletes, and new table tennis enthusiasts across our community. Whether you have trained with Aušra for years or are picking up a paddle for the first time, our doors are open to you!
Celebrating Community & Tournament Success: Our club enters this season backed by wonderful momentum from the recent ŠALFASS / Sporto Šventė Games in Detroit, where 20 Aušra athletes competed across basketball, pickleball, and table tennis. Special applause goes to our table tennis medalists who represented Toronto with immense heart: Ona Stanevičius ( #1 in Ladies' Singles & Mixed Doubles), Diane Kriksciunas (2nd in Ladies' Singles & Mixed Doubles with Eugenius), and our family duos Dainius & his daughter Gabi Šaudys (3rd in Mixed Doubles) and Linas & his son Ignas Šlyka (3rd in Men's Doubles)! We also thank the Mississauga Anapilis players who joined forces with us.
2026–2027 Season Kickoff & Weekly Schedule:
• First Practice Date: Monday, September 21st, 2026
• Junior Team Practice (Youth & Juniors): Mondays at 6:30 PM
• Adults Table Tennis Practice: Mondays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
• Location: Aušra Sports Club Gym, 1 Resurrection Road, Toronto, ON
What Our Program Offers:
• Every Monday Practice: Weekly structured training, drills, and match play.
• Inter-Club Competition: Competitive match play against local GTA sports clubs.
• Official Club Ratings: Performance rankings to track personal skill growth.
• ŠALFASS Tournament Pathway: Preparation and entry into North American Lithuanian games.

That’s a wrap on another fun summer of Ausra tennis! The season ended with a competitive doubles tournament filled with epic rallies, clutch tiebreakers, and great energy. A big congratulations to our 2026 Ausra Cup champs Orest & Ilona Turczyn! 🏆 And thanks to everyone who made this season so special on and off the court.
