What a privilege it was to complete another trip to Poplar Hill First Nation over this past weekend. This was our third time delivering services in the community, and it was so nice to see so many familiar faces, both human and animal! 🩺🐾

Before our partnership with the community began, veterinary services had never been available. Poplar Hill is a fly-in-only community for most of the year, with winter road access when weather permits. This means a great deal of work goes into planning and preparing for a trip like this. From ordering and packing supplies, coordinating with logistics companies to ship everything north, arranging travel, preparing and packing food for the team, and organizing the flow of the clinic days, there are countless details involved.

While preparing for this trip, we were also navigating the logistics of shipping the new animal wellness service building, which was constructed off-site, into the community. Our next step is to get it assembled and ready so we can use it during our next visit!

None of this would be possible without the hard work of our team, the volunteers who joined us, and the partner organizations that help sustain this work. Thank you to PetSmart Charities Canada for funding these vital services. Thank you SPCA International for the generous donation of veterinary supplies, including gloves, gauze, thermometers, and sharps containers. Thank you IDEXX for sending us 4Dx tests. This was our first time testing for heartworm in the community (all negatives).

And finally, thank you to our team members in the community, Shaun and Brenda for all of your hard work, driving, coordinating, and the good times; Urban Tails team members Bianca, Ana, and Brianne and John and Dr. Lisa from Huntington Animal Hospital for your time, dedication, and compassion while delivering these services.

If you're interested in joining us on our next trip up North OR you're an RVT interested in supporting our access-to-care clinic days in the Greater Toronto Area, email [email protected] to get involved. 🐾

MEG | RED HEELER | FEMALE | SPAYED | APPROX. 40LBS | 7 YR OLD | AFFECTIONATE | ACTIVE | GOOD WITH ALL PEOPLE | GOOD WITH ALL DOGS | CAT TESTED | LOCATED IN TORONTO 🐾

Meg is a 7-year-old female (spayed) Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) looking for the right forever home. She is affectionate, playful, intelligent, and full of personality. Meg loves being close to her people and forms strong bonds once trust is established.

She enjoys long walks, outdoor adventures, exploring new places, and soaking up all the smells along the way. She also loves toys, treats, bully sticks, and having a job or activity to keep her engaged. Like many Heelers, she has energy to burn and would thrive with regular exercise and mental stimulation.

Meet Dex! This bright, affectionate, 2 year old American Bulldog mix is full of personality and heart. He’s a people-loving, social dog who thrives on connection, routine, and having a job to do. He’s happiest when he knows what’s expected of him and has someone who can offer clear structure, consistency, and a healthy outlet for his energy.

Dex is being supported through our Community program, and we’re hoping to help his person find a unique, collaborative situation — ideally someone interested in caring for him part-time while working in partnership with his current owner, who is navigating scheduling constraints. This arrangement would allow him to stay connected to his person while ensuring his needs are fully met during this busy period.

With that being said, his person is open to discussing rehoming if an exceptional, well-matched home comes along. Dex’s adoption will be facilitated directly with his current owner, Urban Tails is acting as the intermediary.

You can read more about Dex on our website.🐾

OVER 3,000LB OF PET FOOD DISTRIBUTED IN 2026 SO FAR🐶🐱

Our pet food and supply pantry has distributed over 3,000lb of wet and dry food to our Southern Ontario partners so far this year. We are partnered with some fantastic women’s shelters and social service organizations in the GTA and are proud to be able to support the clients of these organizations who are caring for pets.

We also proudly support individuals through our Street Support program, meeting pet guardians where they’re at in the city who are in need of food, supplies, or other resources for their companions.

Thank you to and Puslinch for supporting our pet pantry initiative!

LUNA IS LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME🐾

Luna is a beautiful 4-year-old girl with so much love to give. She was adopted through Urban Tails as a puppy, but has been returned to rescue through no fault of her own.

She’s the perfect mix of sweet, affectionate, cuddly, independent, and playful — she loves being close to her people just as much as she loves a good game of fetch. She is good with other dogs her size, but would prefer a home without small dogs. Luna has been good with dog-savvy kids and has had some exposure to cats.

Read more about her and apply to adopt here: https://urbantailsnetwork.org/adoptable-luna

As we enter our 10th year (!!), we want to say thank you to all of our volunteers, adopters, fosters, friends, family, supporters, and everyone who has helped shape Urban Tails over the years. You may notice something looks different...and it is!

A few weeks ago, we announced our official name change and new logo with our donors, email subscribers, and internal team. Today, we share the big news publicly! While the change may seem subtle, it reflects the evolution of our work and our commitment to supporting not only animals, but also the people who care for them.

Although we continue to operate a foster and adoption network, our programs have grown to include access-to-care initiatives, surrender prevention services such as our pet food and supply bank, free community resources, and more. We've partnered with some incredible organizations in the Greater Toronto Area to provide services, and we continue to expand toward the Hamilton region.

Many of you have also seen glimpses of our farmed animal sanctuary residents, who are living well and thriving. Long-time supporters may remember our earlier work in horse, pig, and other farmed animal rescues, efforts that continue to shape who we are today.

We are incredibly proud of the network we’ve built including our rescue partners, businesses, supporters, adopters, volunteers, and community members. We recognize and appreciate all of the hard work of past volunteers, board members, and groups who have had a hand in Urban Tails' evolution. This next chapter is a meaningful one, and we’re excited for what lies ahead.

Thank you for growing with us, believing in this work, and continuing to stand alongside us as we move forward. 🐾

If you'd like to get involved as a volunteer, donor, fundraiser, or in any other creative way, reach out to us at [email protected].

🚨 Call for Short-Term Foster Homes/Pet Sitters 🚨

With the expansion of our Community Program and trusted partnerships, we are now beginning to offer short-term emergency placements for pet owners across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, as well as the Guelph area through caseworker referrals. These placements ensure that pets remain safe and cared for while their families navigate temporary transition periods.

To support this important work, we are actively expanding our network of short-term foster homes/pet sitters. We are looking for compassionate individuals in Toronto, Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, and Guelph who can open their homes and hearts to pets in need. If you live outside of these areas, we still encourage you to apply!

Short-term fostering is very similar to traditional fostering, but typically with a defined timeline. Whether it’s for a few days or a few weeks, your support can make an immediate and meaningful difference. Urban Tails provides all necessary supplies, you provide the space and time.

If you’re interested, please apply below and indicate whether you are available for short-term fostering/pet sitting, long-term fostering, or both. A member of our team will follow up with next steps and an interview.

👉 Apply here: https://www.urbantailsrescue.org/foster

If you're unable to open your home, you can still help by sharing this post widely to spread the word.🐾

Give the gift of accessible care this holiday season🎁!

We are still in need of additional funds to support the vet clinic build that is underway. This veterinary clinic will serve the Poplar Hill First Nation community animals, providing essential services such as spay, neuter, and wellness.

We’ve bumped our fundraising goal up to $20,000. It’s ambitious, but necessary for us to be able to secure all of the necessary supplies and equipment to ensure the space can be certified and suitable for use.

Donate today via e transfer to [email protected] or directly online through the link in bio! Tax receipts available for donations of $20 or more. 🐾

Alternatively, if you are a veterinary clinic or company looking to donate any equipment or supplies, contact [email protected]
