Toronto Women’s City Alliance (formerly the Toronto Women’s Call to Action) was formed in 2004 by a diverse group of women who have been organizing to end the growing silence and invisibility of girls’ and women’s voices. Racism, poverty, lack of affordable and appropriate services, inadequate planning, unemployment, underemployment, discrimination, domestic violence and sexual assault remain the
alarming realities for many girls and women. Establishing the Toronto Women’s Equality Office. Municipal governments need to be accountable to women, who make up 52% of the population. diverse backgrounds to meet their
rights and needs through systemic
institutional change;
• Reversing cutbacks to services to
women and initiate gender-responsive
budgeting.
