Litmus Theatre

Litmus Theatre Litmus Theatre is a Dora Award winning theatre company founded by Co-Artistic Directors Claire Wynveen, Matthew Thomas Walker and Adriano Sobretodo Jr.

Litmus Theatre’s mission is to contrast classic stories with unique and alternative spaces in our beautiful city, in an attempt to draw attention to the secret nooks and passages of Toronto. By enlivening these spaces, Litmus believe that audiences will be encouraged to look at both the classic stories and spaces with a fresh perspective, allowing us to once again fall in love with the narratives that shaped our societies and the spaces that shaped our city’s history.

Tomorrow at 11-1pm!

Litmus will be at the Good Mourning Festival at Evergreen Brick Works on November 1st performing two readings of Co-AD Adriano Sobretodo Jr.'s latest play, BALIKBAYAN at 11am and 1pm. Tickets are free and first come first serve on the day, but feel free to message us if you'd like us to reserve a seat for either.

The Good Mourning Festival is a free, two-day event with performances, art installations, hands-on workshops and multicultural traditions about death, grief and mourning.

The word “Balikbayan” describes someone returning to the Philippines after living abroad. This Balikbayan is a theatre-play shout-out to 80’s sci-fi film Back to the Future. A death in the family propels a son’s bizarre journey to uncover a dark family mystery across time and cultures. It’s about grief, modern masculinity, the complexities of leaving home — and the difference between getting old and growing up.
