Today, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) welcomed members of the Indigenous community to the TTC Wheel-Trans Division at Commissioners and Leslie Streets to host the opening ceremony for National Indigenous History Month.

Biidaasige Park, pronounced β€œbee-daw-si-geh,” is an Anishinaabemowin word meaning β€œsunlight shining toward us.” Chosen through an intentional, Indigenous-led naming process, the name honours the sacred relationship between land, water, and sky.

It also pays vital tribute to the Indigenous water protectors who have guided the long-term ecological restoration of this territory.
