True North is an unflinching exploration of collective identity shaped by labour. Five performers push through repetition and strain, revealing the effort often hidden beneath the surface. Raw and relentless, the work asks what we labour for and what that labour leaves behind.

Set in a visceral, industrial world, bodies endure cycles of force and recalibration, suspended between survival and solidarity. Drawing on Malkowski’s research into accumulation and trance state physicality, True North exposes myths of Canadian identity, revealing a nation built by immigrant hands and extractive labour. Urgent, human, and uncompromising.

Winehouse enters the figure of the Saghi, the wine bearer who offers awakening rather than knowledge. Wine becomes a symbol of clarity, marking the moment when learning deepens into wisdom. Developed over two decades with master musician Pirouz Yousefian, Winehouse is a live dance and music ritual shaped by improvisation, shared breath, and embodied heritage inspired by the Caucasus, Shiraz, and Central Asian nomadic traditions.
