Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund

Every kid deserves a summer at camp 🏕️
Helping youth access summer camp since 1972. 100% volunteer-run.

The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund was established in 1972 in honour of Taylor Statten I, a leading figure in North American camping and youth education who believed that summer camp can play a critical role in a child’s early life and development. Camp can build self-confidence, encourage teamwork, leadership, and an appreciation of nature, and is also just plain fun! It is in this spirit that we eagerly look to share these experiences by helping bridge the gap between camp fees and what families can afford. The Fund provides financial assistance that can be put towards any camp that is an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association or the Canadian Camping Association and is willing to contribute to the Fund by offering a satisfactory fee reduction. In addition to demonstrated financial need, the Fund seeks potential campers who are at least 11 years old and have shown leadership qualities. Once accepted for sponsorship, the Fund will provide annual financial assistance to the camper for as many years as required.

The TSCBF was thrilled to join members of the Project Canoe community for a paddle down the Humber River at their Donor & Volunteer Celebration and AGM today! 🛶 It was an honour to hear inspiring stories from current leaders and youth, and to get an inside look at their 2026 season.

Project Canoe provides youth with opportunities to build self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-love through educational outdoor programming. Their summer wilderness canoe trips, complemented by year-round programs in Toronto, help youth recognize and build on their unique strengths, form meaningful social connections, and raise their perceived limits of what they’re capable of.

We were proud that the Bursary Fund was able to support Project Canoe’s camp programming this year, and it was a privilege to celebrate the impact of this season alongside their donors, volunteers, and staff. Thank you for having us! 💚

The numbers are in — and they’re incredible! 🔥

This year’s TSCBF September Camp Auction at Camp Ahmek raised over $60,000! 🤯🧡 A new record, and the best energy we’ve seen on Canoe Lake in over 10 years.

The dining hall was brimming with guests, and the beautiful weather was complimented by the camp spirit that filled the beach. A special thank you to TSC | Summer Camps for hosting this cornerstone event for the bursary year after year, and making this win possible.

Every dollar raised goes toward sending kids to camp across Canada, and this year’s result is a huge step forward for that mission.

This year was extra special as we recognized Tim Welsh , who has hosted the auction from the mic for 30 years since joining the Bursary in 1996. His energy and dedication have shaped this event for a generation of campers and families — a plaque in his honour will be placed in the dining hall, and a commissioned painting will help capture the spirit of the day. Thank you, Mouse, for everything you’ve given to this community. 💛

🏕️ Save the date: TSCBF September Camp Auction!

Join us on Saturday, September 5th at Camp Ahmek on beautiful shore of Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park for our annual Labour Day tradition — the Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund’s biggest fundraiser of the year!

Held on the main beach in front of the Ahmek Dining Hall, this legendary auction has featured everything from wilderness outpost retreats to handknit sweaters, original artwork, theatre and sports tickets, and the ever-coveted “Best Seats in the House.” In its best year, the auction raised an incredible $40,000 — funds that go directly toward bursaries helping youth attend accredited camps all across Canada.

Since 1972, TSCBF has been sending kids to camp coast to coast — and this auction is one of the biggest reasons we can keep doing it. 💛

The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund is in the news! 📰

For over 50 years, the TSCBF has been working to ensure financial barriers don’t stop young people from experiencing the life-changing benefits of summer camp. We raise funds to send kids to accredited camps across Canada — because every child deserves that opportunity.

Our next big event is our annual Charity Auction, hosted at Taylor Statten Camps’ Family September Camp. We’d love to see more members of the camp community there!

Still riding the high from Saturday. 🏒

This year’s TSCBF Alumni Hockey Tournament was our biggest yet — the most teams we’ve ever had on the ice, and together we raised $13,000 for kids who deserve a summer at camp.

Thank you to every camp community that showed up and competed: Taylor Statten Camps, Camp Kandalore, Camp Wanapitei, Camp Kilcoo, Camp Arowhon, and Camp Onondaga. This tournament only exists because of you.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors — The Midloch Foundation and Bristol Gate Capital Partners Inc. — whose generosity makes this whole day possible.

Thank you to Pogue Mahone Pub & Kitchen for hosting our post-game celebration and to Upper Canada College for opening their rink to us for another year.
