Want to stop Jewish settler terrorism? Peace Now has a plan!

What happened in Qusra was not an isolated failure. It is the result of a policy that has allowed settler terrorism to spread.

שלום עכשיו knows how this happened. Its staff has been on the ground, documenting it while being spat at, punched, and physically blocked. They have seen how the system was built, how it is funded and enabled, and how it can be dismantled.

If settler violence was built through policy, it can also be reversed through policy.

Peace Now has laid out a practical plan for doing exactly that. Here it is: https://peacenow.org.il/en/plan-to-eradicate-jewish-nationalist-terrorism

Why do we refuse to learn from our past?!

Today is Tisha B'Av, a day when many Jews around the world fast in lamentation of the destruction of the ancient temples in Jerusalem and the many calamities the Jewish people have faced throughout their history.

Jewish tradition says the Second Temple fell because of "baseless hatred," which today might be called "internal conflict." In a recent piece, Shuki Friedman, the CEO of the Jewish People Policy Institute, points to a different factor: zealotry.

During the Bar Kokhba revolt, ideological purity trumped survival and any compromise was a betrayal. The result: Rome crushed the revolt and decimated Jewish life in the land. "Then as now, this fanaticism imperils the Jewish state," writes Friedman.

That warning is worth thinking about given the continued entrenchment of settlements, the billions of shekels being invested in West Bank infrastructure while other parts of Israel continue to suffer, expansion of outposts into Area B and the imposition of new burdens on the military.

This is how modern zealotry advances: by making seemingly irreversible changes before the public fully understands what has changed.

We need to heed the warnings of history!

This is a MUST-READ for anyone who cares about Israel's future!

Peace Now has just released one of the most important and most alarming reports it has ever published.

The report offers an in-depth look at the government's annexation policies: on the ground, through the state budget, in the expansion of outposts, and via all mechanisms of control.

The entire system is designed to impose a messianic vision on Israelis, at the expense of the vast majority who never chose it.

Settlement is a choice. Occupation is a choice. Violence is a choice. We can encourage different choices.

Peace Now reports that the Israeli Civil Administration issued a new expropriation order targeting 110 dunams (about 27 acres) at Nabi Samuel/al-Nabi Samwil north of Jerusalem, which includes a mosque revered as the traditional tomb of the Prophet Samuel. This is the first time the Civil Administration has seized a Muslim Waqf-owned holy site in the occupied West Bank.

For decades, Jews and Muslims have prayed at the site without major conflict, but Peace Now warns that the government’s messianic agenda is setting “the conditions for transforming a political conflict into a religious war.”

In the face of this onslaught of hate, שלום עכשיו is forging ahead with its work documenting abuses in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Peace Now activists are regularly on the front lines, bringing Israelis to see what annexation looks like and participating in protective presence.

With their warped messianic vision, Smotrich and Ben-Gvir are committing a desecration of Jewish values. Our response must be to support Peace Now activists who are working tirelessly to stand up to the extremists. They represent the best of Israel.

Last week, Peace Now CEO Lior Amihai was violently attacked by settlers and suffered a head injury during a tour at Ein Samiya in the occupied West Bank. Although the attackers faces were clearly visible and recordings of the incident were widely reported, Lior was the one summoned for questioning.

Says Peace Now: "...the police are acting as is expected of them in the Ben Gvir era, and have chosen to question under caution precisely the one who was attacked."
