In 2003 the Founder of [free-them] moved from Oakville, Ontario Canada to Honolulu, Hawaii USA to pursue her university education. She moved into Waikiki onto a street named Kuhio Avenue (if you stay in Waikiki long enough, you learn quickly that this street is also known as Candy Lane - it's the track). Daily she encountered pr******tes at her "front door" and instead of rejecting them, she start

ed to engage. Over a short period of time, she began to learn that the word "pr******te" which we equate often with "choice" should be replaced with "pr******ted." Once this word, "pr******ted" is introduced into your vocabulary, you learn the word "human trafficking" (and for many your world will never be the same again). Over the years she has lived in Honolulu USA, Vancouver Canada, & Sydney Australia learning, raising awareness and fighting the injustice of Human Trafficking. Moving back to Ontario Canada, [free-them] was founded, an initiative to partner with people, organizations, & businesses to fight human trafficking -– the modern slave trade.

It affects every kind of community β€” including our own. In Canada and around the world, survivors are often overlooked or misunderstood, and prevention efforts fall short without clear information, trauma-aware support, and survivor-informed action.

A powerful three-part virtual series invites everyday people to open their eyes, raise awareness, and take meaningful action against human trafficking.Β 

The series, hosted by members of the Women’s Institute, runs Monday October 27, Β Tuesday October 28, and Thursday October 30 from 7:00–8:00 PM EST online.
Each evening offers focused insights from leading voices and lived experiences, designed to inspire informed, community-rooted responses.
