This Ovenbird is on its way to receive some life-saving treatment after colliding with this bike shelter on College St in front of the Fitz Gerald Building. Thank you to for the rescue and the photos!

This bike shelter is an easy retrofit and supported us by offering to donate material to get it done in 2024. All we need is ‘s permission to prevent these federally-protected migratory birds from colliding! This problem is preventable!

Here’s the window collision data for this spring current up until today. Walking around campus today feels like the lull before the storm. We expect the next wave of migrants, mainly the warblers, to start arriving any day now!

This Yellow-bellied Sapsucker fatally collided with the Anthropology building today.
Please help us make this problem visible and advocate for the solution: getting this glass effectively treated with bird-window collision deterrence!

Our old Google form has been replaced with this new form that lives on our website (link in bio).

If you see a bird that has collided with a building on campus:

1. Please take a photo of the bird in front of the building, and a close-up ID-quality picture of the bird.

Is the bird alive?

Contain the bird in an unwaxed paper bag or a small cardboard box. If using a box, poke a few small holes in it. Put the box in a warm, dark, quiet place away from pets. Avoid talking to or handling the bird. Never give a bird food or water. Immediately contact Toronto Wildlife Centre through their online ‘Request for Assistance’ form. For more information, visit flap.org

Whether alive or dead, please report the collision to us.

2. Report using our form at birdsafeuoft.org (link in our bio) or through a DM to our Instagram account. We will enter all data we receive into FLAP Canada’s Global Bird Collision Mapper.

Check out the data we collect together in our Campus Collision Dashboard!
