Sharks and Oceans

Sharks and Oceans Our oceans are in danger with climate changes, greenhouse effect, seas of plastic, pollution from sh Why should we care?

We need sharks for a healthy ocean and planet. As apex predators, sharks are critically important to the ocean and its fragile balance. Recent studies indicate that regional elimination of sharks can cause disastrous effects further down the food chain including the collapse of fisheries and the death of coral reefs.

Shame to the mayor of Noumea, New Caledonia, who ordered to kill hundreds of sharks 🦈 instead of asking scientists and shark specialists study why shark attacks have happened. Human lives can be protected without slaughtering an already endangered specy. ☹️😡

In response to several shark attacks over a short period of time, the municipality of Nouméa has launched a campaign to exterminate bull and tiger sharks. Conservationists are pleading for other solutions.

Today i had the privilege to visit Maya Bay in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand 🇹🇭 Its such a beautiful place, I’m sure you’ve seen it in the movie The Beach with Leonardo di Caprio. Unfortunately mass tourism has changed the site, there’s high boat traffic (most of them use highly polluting engines), there are thousands of visitors every day with some of them trashing the place ... fortunately it’s forbidden to swim in the bay but people still got knee deep (with tons of sunscreen) to take selfies and group pictures.
We rescued this little crab today. A girl was so eager to go in the water to have her picture taken that she stepped on the poor thing.
We shouldn’t go to places like that to say “I’ve been there” and post pictures on social media. We should go there to admire the beauty of nature and do our best to protect it, and also educate people who don’t know it needs to be protected.

Amazing!
