On June 3, CCBC hosted a networking event in Ottawa that brought together members and partners to exchange perspectives on Canada–China business opportunities.

The event featured remarks from Jeff Zhang, Senior Regional Director, Central Canada, CCBC; Larry Elliot, Regional Managing Partner, Ottawa, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG); and Dr. Helen Tang, Executive Chair of INTE Modular.

Discussions covered key findings from CCBC’s 2025/2026 Canada–China Business Survey, perspectives on China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, the evolving legal and commercial environment for international business, and the role of advanced manufacturing, modular construction, artificial intelligence, renewable energy integration, and global supply chains in addressing Canada’s housing and infrastructure challenges.

Last week, on May 7, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) was pleased to host a member roundtable in Edmonton, bringing together members and stakeholders from the Canada–China business community across the Prairies for a timely discussion on the evolving business landscape in Greater China markets.

Zhao Liying, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Calgary; Dr. Wenran JIANG, President of the Canada-China Energy & Environment Forum and Advisor at the Institute for Peace & Diplomacy; Anton Malkin, Head of Research at The China Institute at the University of Alberta; and Lotta Silfverberg Ygartua, Regional Director, Western Canada, Canada China Business Council, led a discussion on the current state of Canada–China relations, insights from China’s latest Five-Year Plan, and emerging opportunities for economic engagement, particularly in the energy sector.

Members also received an overview of key findings from CCBC’s latest Canada–China Business Survey, offering valuable perspectives on market sentiment, commercial priorities, and the evolving operating environment for Canadian businesses active in China.

The Canada China Business Council (CCBC), in partnership with the Canada China Chamber of Commerce (CCCC), was pleased to host a discussion in Toronto on May 6, 2026, focused on China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the evolving Canada–China business landscape.

The program brought together senior business leaders and stakeholders from across the Canada–China business community for a thoughtful exchange on China’s economic priorities, recent developments in bilateral relations, and the broader policy environment shaping commercial engagement.

On April 29, 2026, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) presented key findings from its latest Canada–China Business Survey in Vancouver, alongside an overview of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. The event brought together members of the Canada–China business community to examine China’s evolving economic outlook and its implications for Canadian companies.

The discussion provided valuable context on current business sentiment, policy direction, and areas of opportunity for Canadian firms operating in or engaging with the China market. A panel of distinguished speakers shared practical perspectives on recent developments in bilateral trade, emerging opportunities across sectors, and strategies for navigating a complex and evolving business environment.

On April 29, 2026, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC), in partnership with the Pudong New Area district government, held a business roundtable in Shanghai for Canadian and Shanghai-based financial institutions, focused on developments in the financial services sector.

The roundtable brought together representatives from Pudong government departments, including Xu Xin, as well as CCBC member companies active in financial services, for a focused and solutions-oriented exchange. Canadian participants shared operational perspectives, raised key issues, and offered practical recommendations, with government representatives providing initial responses.

Key topics discussed included cross-border data exchange best practices, market access for wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE) pension funds, and Chinese outbound investment.

From April 23 to 24, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) led a delegation of over 20 senior executives from 17 Canadian companies to participate in the “Foreign Enterprises in Zhejiang” event. The event was co-hosted by Citic group and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, with support from the Canada China Business Council, the China-Britain Business Council, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce, China (MOFCOM).

The Hon. Martin Cauchon, c.p. , Ad.E., Vice Chair of the CCBC Board of Directors, attended the event and participated in a closed-door meeting with WANG Hao, Party Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, and XI Guohua, Chairman of Citic group, along with other senior officials from Zhejiang Province and Citic group.

Across Hangzhou, Ningbo, Huzhou, and Jinhua, the delegation undertook a series of targeted site visits and business exchanges aligned with sector priorities.

Zhejiang remains a key destination for international business, with strong trade performance and continued openness to foreign investment.

The Beijing Chapter of the Canada China Business Council hosted a farewell luncheon this week in honour of Ambassador Jennifer May, joined by a group of CCBC advisors in Beijing. As Canada’s first female Ambassador to China, Ambassador May has played a pivotal role in supporting efforts to rebuild a strong and resilient Canada–China relationship during her tenure.

Throughout her time in Beijing, Ambassador May engaged closely with Canadian and Chinese stakeholders, supporting constructive dialogue during a period of evolving bilateral relations. On April 17, the Canada China Business Council hosted a timely discussion in Toronto on Chinese EVs and the Canadian auto market, bringing together senior business leaders and industry experts to examine the opportunities, policy considerations, and market outlook.

Canada’s EV market is entering a new phase of development following the January 2026 agreement permitting the entry of up to 49,000 Chinese-built EVs in its first year. The discussion explored how this evolving landscape may shape market entry strategies, consumer dynamics, and broader industry positioning.

The program opened with remarks from Jeff Zhang, Senior Regional Director, Central Canada (ON, MB), CCBC, followed by remarks from Yufeng Ding CPA, CA, Tax Partner and Business Advisor, MNP; Lional Liao, Partner, MNP; Mike Cristea, Partner, Tariffs & Trade Advisory, MNP; and Elankum Vairavanathan, Director, OEM Relationships – Automotive Finance, RBC.
