Afghans of Toronto Afghans of Toronto is all about depicting the positive picture of Afghanistan and its amazing people who live in Toronto, Canada

- Inspired by HONY

Afghans of Toronto is page created by Farhad Ahmad and Basir Ahmad. The goals intended for this page and project is to photograph the thousands of Afghans that call Toronto their home. Additionally, it is also to recognize more members of the community, as well as their stories, passions and inspirations. Whether we include short stories or quotes, the ideal focus is to inspire all Afghans and to

show the world what our community of Afghans have been through, are going through or what they have to offer. We want our Afghan's to get to know one another and this is the perfect way to do it. It does not matter if you are young, or old, a parent or a student, we want to get to know as many Afghans as we can here in Toronto! If you have any questions or inquiries than feel free to contact:

On behalf of AfghansOfToronto, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Hayati family during this incredibly painful time. We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Noman Hayati, a 23 year old from Edmonton who died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic in March 2026. His family then faced a long and difficult effort to bring his remains home to Canada, including repeated delays and the need to confirm his identity through DNA and dental records.

Our hearts are with his parents, loved ones, and everyone mourning this devastating loss. No family should have to endure such heartbreak, especially while also carrying the burden of bringing their son back home. We pray that Allah grants Noman jan eternal peace, and gives the Hayati family strength, patience, and comfort in the days ahead.

May his memory always be remembered with love.

Afghans of Toronto is dedicated to supporting those in need in Afghanistan. The ongoing crisis has left many without income, food, or a way to make a living. More than 90% of Afghans face daily hardships, with families struggling to survive and taking on risky tasks just to get by. Our strong Afghan community is doing its best to provide for their loved ones.

Last year, thanks to your generosity, we raised over $4,500, providing 40 families with a month’s worth of essential food items like rice, oil, flour, salt, sugar, tea, and cardamom. In 2023, we raised $10,000, helping 83 families.

This year, through our Qalbhai Mehraban campaign, we have set a goal to raise $10,000 before Eid to provide food for struggling families during this blessed time. This fundraiser is Zakat-eligible and Fitr-eligible, making it a perfect opportunity to fulfill your obligations while helping those in need.

To contribute, click the link in our bio or donate via e-transfer to [email protected]. After donating, send us a direct message to confirm your donation.
Every dollar you give helps feed a child, a mother, or a father. May Allah bless and reward your generosity!

November is recognized as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Awareness Month, a time to talk about the serious impact IPV has on individuals and communities. IPV can take many forms, including physical harm, emotional or verbal abuse, manipulation, financial control, and isolating someone from their loved ones.

A devastating tragedy recently unfolded in Oshawa. Parween Adel, a 47-year-old mother, was tragically killed in a domestic violence incident. Her husband, Hakim, has been charged with second-degree murder.

This heartbreaking loss has torn apart an Afghan family, leaving Parween’s children to face a future without either parent—one lost to violence and the other to the justice system. This tragedy is a powerful reminder of how abuse can destroy lives.

In many Afghan families, women often feel pressured to stay in harmful relationships out of fear of “what will people say.” But we must remember that a person’s safety and well-being are far more important than societal judgment.

Now, the fear of public shame has become a reality, but it’s too late to save Parween.
If we, as a community, had acted with compassion and courage earlier, Parween’s life might have been spared, and her children wouldn’t be left with this unimaginable pain. We must come together to prioritize safety and healing over silence and fear.

In honor of Parween’s memory and to support her children, we are asking our community to come together and donate to their GoFundMe campaign. Your generosity can help provide stability and support for her children during this incredibly difficult time. Together, we can help make a difference.
