Canadian Stuttering Association

Canadian Stuttering Association The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA) is an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization for people who stutter in Canada.

WHO we are:

The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA) is Canada's Association for people who stutter and their families. Our core purpose is to provide accurate information and an impartial forum to discuss treatment and management options. We are run entirely by the passion, energy and commitment of our volunteers and provide a website, information service and social media presence. We understan

d stuttering and bring our own experiences to the services we provide. CSA volunteers are mainly people who stutter whose diverse experiences and desire to reach out have brought us together. WHAT we are:

The Canadian Stuttering Association is a registered charity with CRA and a not-for-profit corporation. We started as a network of support groups for people who stutter and now work mainly online to provide impartial information, publicity and support to people who stutter and their families and inform the wider public. Brief History:

Originally established in 1991 as the Canadian Association for People Who Stutter (CAPS), in 2006 we became the Canadian Stuttering Association. National conferences have been held since the first conference in Banff in 1991. Conferences have also been held in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal. What we have to offer as support for people who stutter:

The CSA enables people who stutter to create a community where you are accepted for who you are and where you are not alone. We work closely with (but independently from) speech and language pathologists and treatment centres to organize events. We also do public education through media interviews and information on our website about treatment options and day to day management of stuttering.

🌟CanStutter is proud to introduce our new ‘Participate in Research’ page. Here, you will find research opportunities approved by recognized ethics committees, all dedicated to advancing our understanding of stuttering.

🫂Why is Partaking in Research Important? 💡
1. Stuttering is highly diverse and unique, you help ensure that new therapies or neurological findings account for the wide variety of ways people actually experience stuttering.
2. You help in advancing neurological understanding.
3. When you share your lived experience, you provide the evidence needed to advocate for better accommodations in schools and workplaces, helping to dismantle the stigma that stuttering is linked to intelligence or anxiety.
4. You become an active contributor to the global body of knowledge.

If you are a researcher and wish to advertise your study for recruitment through CanStutter’s website, newsletter, and social media platforms, please submit an application for consideration.

If you know of anyone that meets the requirements and is eligible to participate in these researches, please share and spread the word 🗣️

🎙️Presenting our podcast!

Lisa Wilder and Katie Miller have teamed up to create the CanStutter Podcast. We hope these shows will entertain, inform and delight our audiences! Available on Spotify and Youtube, you can catch Episode One where Lisa interviews scholar and author Tess Casher ✍️

Tess Casher spent most of her childhood in Whitehorse, Yukon. She stuttered from a young age, and got help when she entered the treatment program at the Institute for Stuttering Research in Edmonton, Alberta – an experience that inspired her to write and publish a novel aimed at young people about a junior high school girl who stutters.
