On the one hand, we have a government that has refused to address massive failures in our country’s weapons trade regime. Weapons manufactured by Canadian companies are being used to commit horrors in Lebanon, in Palestine, and in Sudan, and this government has shown no signs of concern. What Carney is asking of Canadians now is that we not only ignore these violations but that we back them, financially, with public money. He is asking us to contribute billions upon billions of public money, through the DSR War Bank, to subsidize the weapons and other hardware being sold to Israel, to the US, to the UAE.
On behalf of all the organizations involved with the Stop the War Bank campaign, we say absolutely not. No more money for war and genocide. Canadians do not want our money to be re-directed from social spending into the pockets of arms dealers and billionaire investors. We reject the War Bank full stop: not in this city, not in any city, not anywhere.
