வடக்கு இலங்கையின் மக்களுக்கான ஒரு வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க சுகாதார மைல்கல்லை பெருமையுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறோம்.
கிளிநொச்சி மாவட்ட பொது வைத்தியசாலையின் பெண்கள் நல மேம்பாட்டு மையத்தில் (Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health) உதவிப் பிரசவ தொழில்நுட்ப (ART/IVF) சேவைகள் வெற்றிகரமாக ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இது வட மாகாண அரச வைத்தியசாலையில் நிறுவப்பட்ட முதல் IVF சிகிச்சை மையமாகும்.
இந்த மகத்தான சாதனையின் மையத்தில் பேராசிரியர் ரகுராமன், மகப்பேறு மற்றும் பெண்நோய் நிபுணர், அவர்களின் தொலைநோக்கு பார்வை, அர்ப்பணிப்பு மற்றும் அயராத முயற்சிகள் உள்ளன. இத்திட்டத்தை உருவாக்கி, முன்னெடுத்து, நடைமுறைப்படுத்துவதில் அவர் ஆற்றிய பங்களிப்பு அளப்பரியது. அவரின் சேவையால், இதுவரை கருத்தரிப்பு சிகிச்சையைப் பெற முடியாமல் இருந்த பல தம்பதிகளுக்கு புதிய நம்பிக்கையும் வாய்ப்பும் உருவாகியுள்ளது.
யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழக மருத்துவ பீடம், கிளிநொச்சி மாவட்ட பொது வைத்தியசாலையின் பெண்கள் நல மேம்பாட்டு மையம் (Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health) மற்றும் வட மாகாண சுகாதார அமைச்சு ஆகியவற்றின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் இத்திட்டம் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இந்தத் திட்டத்தை ஆரம்பிக்கும் வகையில் தேவையான தற்காலிக மனிதவள ஆதரவு, கனடிய தமிழர் சமூகத்தின் நன்கொடைகள் மூலம் சாத்தியமானது. இந்நன்கொடை முயற்சிகள் மாண்புமிகு லோகன் கணபதி, MPP (Markham–Thornhill) அவர்களூடாக ஒருங்கிணைக்கப்பட்டதுடன், JMFOA Canada அமைப்பினால் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டு, புலம்பெயர் சமூகத்திற்கும் உள்ளூர் பங்குதாரர்களுக்கும் இடையிலான பாலமாகச் செயல்பட்டு, நன்கொடையாளர் பொறுப்புக்கூறல், ஒருங்கிணைப்பு, கண்காணிப்பு மற்றும் தொடர்ச்சியான தகவல் பகிர்வை உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறது.
மேலும், பேராசிரியர் ரவிராஜ், பேராசிரியர் சுரேந்திரகுமாரன், யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழக நிர்வாகம், மருத்துவக் குழுக்கள், நன்கொடையாளர்கள் மற்றும் அனைத்து பங்குதாரர்களுக்கும் எமது மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகளைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறோம்.
இது ஒரு மருத்துவத் திட்டம் மட்டுமல்ல. இது நம்பிக்கை, குடும்பங்கள், எதிர்கால சந்ததிகள் மற்றும் எமது சமூகத்தின் நீண்டகால நலனில் செய்யப்படும் முதலீடாகும். கருத்தரிப்பு சிகிச்சையை மக்களிடம் கொண்டு செல்வதன் மூலம், வடக்கு மற்றும் கிழக்கு மக்களின் சமூக மற்றும் மக்கள்தொகை எதிர்காலத்திலும் இது நேர்மறையான தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும்.

We are proud to share a historic milestone for the people of Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka.
The successful commencement of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART/IVF) services at the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health, District General Hospital (DGH) Kilinochchi, marks the establishment of the first IVF treatment facility within a state hospital in the Northern Province.
At the heart of this remarkable achievement is Prof. S. Raguraman, Specialist Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, whose vision, dedication, and commitment have been instrumental in conceptualizing, developing, and launching this pioneering program. Through his tireless efforts, many couples who previously had limited access to fertility treatment will now have renewed hope of starting a family.
This initiative is the result of a strong partnership between the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health at DGH Kilinochchi, the Northern Province Ministry of Health, dedicated healthcare professionals, and the generous support of the Tamil community in Canada.
The temporary human resource support required to launch this program has been made possible through donations from the Canadian Tamil community, coordinated through Hon. Logan Kanapathi, MPP (Markham–Thornhill)** and facilitated by Jaffna Medical Faculty Overseas Alumni - Canada, which serves as the bridge between the diaspora and local partners while providing donor accountability, coordination, monitoring, and ongoing stakeholder engagement.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Prof. S. Raviraj, Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, the leadership of the University of Jaffna, healthcare teams, donors, and all stakeholders who worked together to make this vision a reality.
This is more than a healthcare project. It is an investment in hope, families, future generations, and the long-term well-being of our community. By improving access to fertility care, this initiative has the potential to positively influence the social and demographic future of our region.

Commencement of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Services at DGH Kilinochchi*
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Care at the District General Hospital (DGH) Kilinochchi and the Northern Province Ministry of Health, proudly announces the successful initiation of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services. This landmark achievement marks the establishment of the first-ever IVF treatment facility within a state hospital in the Northern Province.
This collaborative initiative is driven by the academic and clinical expertise of the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Community and Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine. The provision of vital temporary human resources for this project was made possible through the generous funding and facilitation of the Jaffna Medical Faculty Overseas Alumni (JMFOA), Canada.
The launch of these specialized services represents a monumental leap forward in provincial healthcare, democratizing access to advanced fertility treatments for couples in the region. The Faculty of Medicine extends its deepest gratitude to all collaborating partners, clinical teams, and JMFOA Canada for their unwavering support in transforming this vision into reality, and wishes the team continued success in expanding subfertility care.
